You have to ask yourself "is it worth possibly getting a bad review to recover the cost of a new air mattress".
I would say chalk it up to "wear and tear". Get yourself an air mattress repair kit (one usually comes with most air mattresses)
Whatever you decide, resolution needs to be filed before 48 hrs after check out. I would re-inflate and try to find the leak. This easily could be a wear and tear issue. Fear of reviews should not hold you hostage from compensation if warranted. Best to you
Should be simple to repair with an air mattress repair kit or bike repair kit.
Air mattresses leak and puncture all the time - they are temporary bed solutions. It is very unlikley that AIrBnB would support a claim against a deposit for a leaking air mattress.
You may just want to message to them that it appears the air mattress was punctured during their stay because it was in good condition before they arrived as a follow up to your message. Let them know that if they accidentally damaged it you would appreciate if they could pay to replace but you didn't want to assume anything without asking.
As an example, my very first AirBnB experience I was a guest in Paris at a great apartment where my husband accidentally spilled coffee. We cleaned it up and I left a note with a few euro to pay for the broken cup and apologize for inconvenience. It turns out the spill damaged the host's TV which we didn't realize because we didn't use the TV at all.
The host very kindly let me know the TV wasn't working and when they investigated found that the coffee spill appears to have gotten a key part of TV wet and caused need to replace. I agreed to pay for the TV because it was our fault and I recognized how the spill would have caused it. I offered to pay him direct via PayPal rather than through the AirBnB bureaucracy because it was just a lot easier and I didn't want him to have to wait for resolution to a problem I was responsible for.
The lesson I took from that as a host is your guests may not realize something they did so should be given opportunity to rectify.
Melita,
I would suggest not using an air mattress. hey just simply don't hold up and offer your guests an uncomfortable nights sleep. Something new to consider when selecting a mattress is "Can I make even more money off my listing buy selling the mattress??" The answer is YES! One of the newest ways to maximize your listing is to partner with a company to sell the mattress directly to the guests. All you have to do is place a placard next to the bed and if the guest loves the mattress they place an order on line using a coupon code tied to your listing. The mattress is roll-packed and shipped within a week. Commissions are paid monthly. Easiest way to bring in another revenue stream to your listing.
Best wishes,
Sam
