help needed with sudden landlord Airbnb authorization cancellation

Hello,

We are Airbnb Super hosts in Vancouver since 2010, and have had the official authorization from our current landlords to have Airbnb guests since 2011.

We also have the city license since last year.

The landlords tried to increase our rent by 25% for the second year in a row (last year and this year) and we said no, so they are trying to get rid of us by revoking our Airbnb authorization, effective August 1st.

We are fully booked and don't know what to do.

We URGENTLY need some advice, and were wondering if you had any ideas, or know anyone who could give us any pointers?

Thanks hugely in advance for getting back to us.

Sincerely,

Serge and Brigitte

Hello @Serge-and-Brigitte0

What mean spirited Landlords to revoke your License. especially if you have otherwise adhered to your Tenancy Agreement.

Have you had any complaints from neighbours or Guests who have posed any serious issues in that time?

Is there any clause in your Tenancy Regulations / Legislation that could deem it to be a Retaliatory action?

Does your local Tenancy Regulator have any comparisons for average rental increases for comparable properties in your Location?

Have you looked on your local Legal Decision Database where there have been ABB and or similar cases of previous Case Law?

Have you considered perhaps to a mutual agreement with your Landlord to perhaps have a percentage of any "profits' that they may perceive you to be receiving?

It's more conducive to a good working relationship to have happy. excellent tenants than take on new ones who could be much worse than yourselves.

There's always 'Grey areas'  in laws and you may like to exercise some of those options.

You may also like to use related keywords in the searchbox here in CC to see if anyone else has encountered similar situations as your own.

Please keep us posted how you get on

All the best from New Zealand where we are fortunate to have some staff at Dept of Building & Housing who are tenants renting, share & use ABB & who understand where tenants come from.

@Serge-and-Brigitte0

Looking at your listing you both very clearly are fantastic Ambassadors for Vancouver, Canada & the ABB community.

Exercise your Democratic Rights enshrined under Laws than move, your landlord has probably been reading to many misleading stories about renters enjoying the fine company of ABB paying  'billets"!!

It may also be an idea to change your calendar to only book the maximum number of days/ weeks for either party to give notice to end one's tenancy to play safe.

Perhaps the landlord realises your making substantially more money on his/her property then they our, and if this is the case you may reconsider the rent increase?

Thanks for your feedback, all of you.

In response to the last comment, the landlords have been explicitly fine (in writing) with us doing Hosting Airbnb guests at their property: every cent we make with our Airbnb activity, goes into their pocket (as rent)

So, they're just trying to bully us into leaving (so they can get their huge rent increase with a new tenant).

Our problem is that we have a lot of bookings, which we cannot cancel.

So, we're negociating to be able to stay if we pay them what they're asking.
