Sometimes, the cleaning fee (the cost of paying a cleaning person and supplies) exceeds the daily rate of rental. This cleaning fee is just a one time fee, though. So if you are staying one night, this might seem unfair or strange, but if you are staying several nights or longer, the cleaning fee will seem a lot more reasonable. 

I often discount upcoming dates to encourage last minute bookings but the cleaning fee remains the same and CAN exceed the daily rate. In these circumstances, I always let the guests know that the cleaning fee may seem disproportionate but it is only because they are getting  discount on the daily rate of rental.
