I downloaded the App to manage my calendar while I was away from home. I blocked some dates using the app. This however did not prevent to book automatically on the dates I had blocked. I had to contact the guests and apologise for having the cancel the booking trying to explain. If that was not bad enough I now got a big, bad red mark for canceling together with the threat to be struck off if this happens again. That stinks really!

Hi, I am new to Airbnb and found that many guest bookings are automatic. Given 24 hour response time for future guests; it seems that going on holiday, emergencies where a host cannot respond in that time, having blocked off relevant dates if possible, are unacceptable to Airbnb. 

 

Considering the fact many hosts are using their home to accomodate guests and have other responsibilities, there could be circumstances when responding to guests is not possible, therefore being penalised for it.

 

I always try to accomodate my guests, but, does that mean I am not able to have a holiday or a real emergency, whereby, I cannot respond to future guests for the time away without penalisation? 

 

Blocking dates does not mean guests will not book within those times. I understand your concerns and I am wondering how these problems are efficiently and fairly dealt with.
