The website has leaned toward listings being more visually focused which is fantastic but we lost the importance of listing descriptions. People can rent a teepee, a bed, a mansion, or a boat, etc.... descriptions are so much more important on this site than a hotel where rooms are so alike you never actually book a hotel room number you just book a general room. And Id say even their cookie cutter room descriptions are more clearly laid out.
It is more difficult than not for a guest to find the expand button on a description to be able to read the description. This causes guests to message a hosts with much more questions than they should have or to have felt something was inaccurate. Hosts can respond back with "did you read the description?" and that isnt a very welcoming message to get as a guest.
If you make descriptions more clearly viewable youd get less complaints from guests about hosts listing, higher accuracy for everyone's ratings, and less need to communicate before booking.
In fact, if the description MUST be hidden behind an expand page then maybe we can enhance that by detecting if a guest opened it or not. If a guest did not then they can have an alert on top of their message like "please be sure to expand the description which may hold answers to many of the questions on your mind" or even alert the host that the description wasn't opened.
No doubt in my mind most everyone here has the greatest of intentions but you'd avoid so much miscommunication by making descriptions easier to read.
