I am getting local pressure to get a permit for a B&B - the Board of Selectmen does not see the difference between the two models. And local city of Portsmouth is pushing back the freedom of Airbnb's - seeking to go after the Airnb from a zoning perspective.
@Thomas1 Unfortunately your thread was posted in the german-speaking part of the CC. Maybe you can post your question again in the english-speaking part (I suggest the board "responsible hosting")? I think there you'll find more locals who can help you with your "local" question. My opinion: Do your offer breakfast? If not: The name "Airbnb" is partly misleading cause the "business" model isn't the hotel industry but #subletting or just #letting or #holidayletting. Greetings from Munich!
FYI - here in SF, it is illegal for single family homes to obtain a B&B license (it was an often tried excuse for fighting the last election that the opposition commonly told). Look to some sort of rules and regulations with B&B Licensure as it could be illegal in your town.
Hi, First the good news. At least your Selectman is talking to you vs. issuing you a legal infraction. So keep talking to him. Have him show you in your town (or government's) zoning or ordinaces what he feels you are in violation of. There should be a definition section in your zoning. See what it says about B and Bs. I suspect you do not fall into that designation. Get us more information. So if there are sections on zoning find out what applies to your property and what uses are allowed. In my town a Band B is a minimum of 4 rooms and the proprieter serves breakfasts, but again you need to see the definitions. Regards, Curt
