But..................................He offered to buy it! LOL! See, there ARE good guests out there. 🙂
I have a double bed with a very old mattress that I know is only adequate, at best. Luckily I have other amenities to make up for the crappy bed. But a guest who will be staying with me Nov-Jan asked if I would mind and if it would be possible for him to buy a new bed for the room.
I've seen so many posts about guests demanding things from hosts, but ladies and gentleman, that is how it's done! Even better, I told him I had planned on upgrading the bed in the spring anyway so I will just do it earlier than planned and he STILL offered to help pay for it. My plan is to buy the bed and mattress I had already researched (queen with memory foam) and ask him to spring for a nice mattress protector, and he can also buy a mattress topper if he wants.
@Jeremy100 Did you actually read all of what @Suzanne302 wrote? This is a long term guest and she said her mattress is old and needed replacing anyway. The guest isn't "bringing his own bed and mattress"- Suzanne is going to buy a much neded new mattress and bed frame and the guest has offered to chip in to help pay for it.
And no, everyone doesn't have some ulterior motive- some people happen to be nice and just want to help out.
Well I think I owe @Sarah977 and @Suzanne302 a big apology. I have just received an enquiry for a 10 days stay next summer from a family who would like to buy locally and bring extra garden furniture. She has said they like ours but might have some friends over during their stay so need as few more seats. Not only that but she says we can keep it after they leave. My only stipulation is that it’s good quality and in keeping with the rest of our decor. (Even a free gift shouldn’t be bad on the eye). This bring/pay for your own must be a thing. Could do with a new boat but that’s probably too much to wish for (lol). Let just hope it’s not hooky. I’m still stunned.
We have a similar story. A guest who comes almost every week on business asked if he could bring his "spare" TV because ours is pretty small. So now it's set up permanently (well,, until he doesn't stay here any more) in the living room.
cool @Suzanne302
Your dogs will love it to play on!!
Which if they are anything like my friends dog, Zara, they will head straight for it when you shift it..maybe you could keep it somewhere for Guests dogs to use in the garage or somewhere, especially if they have larger dogs like Greyhounds...or donate it to an animal shelter..
All the best
One guest bought 2 quality top sheets and an electric water cooker and that's the only upgrade made by our guests so far :)))
Well, if he helps you to unpack and assemble the new bed that's really nice of him. I would be very grateful 🙂
I'd just like to say THANK YOU to the hosts who actually read, and comprehended, what I wrote.
Either I did a bad job at communicating the situation, or, some people just skimmed the post and didn't understand the whole story.
@Suzanne302 Rest assured you have done a great job explaining it, I think it maybe just the way our different languages blend that things have been misinterpreted - I've had a challenge with a topic I've contributed to to been twisted out of context 😉
Thank you @Helen427 ! I thought I was going mad! Based on some of the responses I kept rereading my post and thinking, "Am I missing something? Did I leave something out? Are they reading the same post that I'm reading?!" LOL
Hahaha I had a guest who wanted to know if he would fit in the bed. He's tall and the bed is a full. it does have a new mattress though. Honestly I couldn't say "for sure" 🙂 but did tell him "I guess it depends on what position you sleep in. I have had guests here that were 6' 3" before." He was quite quirky but all in all very good!
