Canceling a guest's reservation because of host travel plans

Hi guys!

I am a superhost and have been hosting for over a year now. Sometimes we get bookings months in advance. My family and I are planning to travel and we booked our flights to go away for a week.

However, during that 1 week we had 2 bookings with guests to come and stay with us. We blocked off all the other dates but those 2 reservations are still there and I fear that if we cancel them we will lose our superhost status and also get negative penalties on our profile.

We tried getting a family member to come and stay with us to take care of those listings but nobody is available and we see no option but to cancel the bookings. Would this count as an extenuating circumstance?

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it will cancel your Superhost status , but if it can't be avoided , but have a look first as there is a penalty of $100 per cancellation and I hear from other forums on ABB they put your listing further down on the availability. They seem to take cancellations by Hosts more seriously than they do if Guests cancel .

If I were in your shoes, I would definitely try to find either a family member or a friend to come and take care of the guests. I would hate loosing the superhost status.

I know this is of no help right now, but a year out we will block off a month as we know that we will probably take a holiday during that time - so we then book flights etc and open up the calendar when we are clear on our travel dates.
