Hosting in Charleston S.C.

Moved to Charleston, West Ashley, and was going to do a garage conversion for a private suite to Airbnb..........then I found out the rules for Charleston County

(house is in the county) turns out the rules are more onerous then in the city. A simple permit allows 72 days a year and would change our property tax status. An extended permit allows 144 days a year but there are inspections and has to go before a board for a vote...... and yes this is for renting a room in a house that is owner occupied. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

I am sorry to hear you are going through this... I didn't think it possible to be more painful than downtown where you have to be on the register of historic places.

Hi Sue685

i just moved to West Ashley. Bought a home with no HOA and out a ways from it all in hopes I could rent out a room with abnb with minimal hassles.  I am just now learning of all of these rules all over Charleston and I am not sure if I should even attempt it.  How are things going for you with your abnb room rental in West Ashley now?  Do we have to get a permit from the city?
