I live in the House.

Hi,

I am renting my house on April 1st. I live there and was wondering what would be the guests expectations as to having enough space in the walk-in closet but still having to share such space with some of my things. Should I move the entire content of my closet to an enclosed area of the house? What is your experience? The closet is really huge and I only occupy half of it. The couple is staying for just three days.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on this.

happy weekend.

@Mariflor0   You are not being very clear- are you planning to be home when the guests are there or are you going somewhere else? Do you have a guest room where the guests will sleep? Is there no closet in the guest room? Why would they use your walk-in closet? If there is no closet in the guest room, you could buy one of those free-standing clothes racks to put in there. There are also clothes racks which fit over the top of a door. It's a little odd for the guest to use your personal closet.

Or are you going away and the guests will stay in your room? If so, you could push your clothes down out of the way, as you say the closet is big, but really you should pack your clothes and personal items away if you are not going to be there. It could save you a lot of grief if your things go missing.

@Sarah0hi. Thanks for answering so promptly. I will be moving out of the house during those three days and the guest will be sleeping in my room. I could also lodge them

in the guest room and leave my room as is and locked but I am renting the entire house so I don’t know if I can do that. On the other hand the guest room is ample enough for them.

@Mariflor0 I'm a little confused by your listing, lovely photo's of your house and its listed as entire house yet you say its part of a condominium. So is the house split into apartments and you only get part of it or maybe its the housekeeper that lives in the other bit.

Getting more confused,  Its a whole house listing but guests have no private entrance and no washing machine. No photo's of the bedrooms or bathrooms, nice photo of the kitchen but guests can't use it.

I think you would be better listing it as a private room in your home and you keep the 2nd bedroom for all your personal things.

This statement sets of alarm bells for me "I do not disclose the fact that I rent with Airbnb so please keep it between us. Neighbours could feel uncomfortable."

Hi @Jeff158. I didn´t realize one could get confused with my listing. You are right. It is confusing. As for the last statement, I saw it in many listings as I was building mine and knew it would apply to me. Having said this, after living for one year in the house (I used to live in Venezuela) I don't think neighbours would realize I am renting the house to others.

Let me clarify a bit: the house is a full house but it is in a condominium of 13 more houses. I have the master bedroom in which I sleep and there is another guest room with twin beds, a walk-in closet and private bathroom.

I will be moving out to a friend of mine who happpens to live in the condominium and I was wondering if I could leave some of my stuff in the closet of which I only occupy half and leave the other half to them or do I need to vacate the whole closet. @Sarah977 pointed out it could save me a lot of grief later on if something is missing.

The other alternative I have is to lodge them in the guest room and I can the leave my stuff and close the closet. But that is not what I have offered so I guess that alternative is a non alternative.

In conclusion, I see now I need to re write my listing. I have two: one for the entire house and one for a bedroom. In both cases I need to take out the kitchen picture and be more specific as to what I offer.

As for the housekeeper, she lives in her room downstairs with her son.

Thanks for your input. Really helps
