I recently had a guest stay in my apartment and my bedding was damaged..I'm assuming he had a female guest because there was blood all over my bedding and it is permanently stained. Aside from it being really gross, I now need to replace everything and I am wondering if Air Bnb covers that cost and if so, how do I make a claim? There is also a small stain on the mattress. I don't expect they would cover the cost of a new mattress but I am wondering how much would be covered. Does anyone have any insight?
Did this person get any resoluiton to this problem
im sorry but isnt soiled bedding considered normal wear & tear? are we going to put in a claim every time we have to buy new sheets? it sucks yes, but its part of the business we are in. Going thru insurance for blood on a sheet is a stretch in my opinion
Soiled but not blood stains. It's hard to clean and with blood borne diseases, it's risky cleaning them.
the guest should pay for replacement.
I don't agree. It is the cost of doing business. I can not imagine being asked to buy new sheets for a stain. I would feel the host was using me to get new sheets. Accidents happen. Will be interested to see what airbnb says. I could be wrong --- it is just my opinion.
I get out blood stains with cold water and peroxide. It takes some time but should work. Good luck. I also think stains on bedding is to be expected from time to time. Do you have a mattress cover? If not, I would invest in one.
A tiny spot or two of blood (or pizza, or ink) might be considered normal wear and tear, but not a sheet ruined by blood, whatever the cause. Go througbh the Resolution Center. Of course, at the same time, make a good-faith attempt to clean the sheet, mattress pad, and mattress, but definitely file a claim. "Wear and tear" is about sheets getting old and frayed, not being ruined in a day by blood, rips, flames, whatever.
@Julie263 So sorry this has happened to you! Yes I imagine that was really gross to have to deal with. Lots of good suggestions here, the only thing I would add is to invest in a really good mattress cover so you never have to worry about stains extending into the mattress. The best ones I found (at Home Outfitters in Calgary) are called Sleep Clean or Rest Guard - they're full encasement, waterproof and completely cover both sides of your mattress, zippping up with a little plastic click lock that keeps bed bugs out too. I got them for all the guest beds. They were pretty expensive, but not nearly as expensive as replacing the mattress would be.
It's good to hear some hosts have had luck getting their guests to pay for ruined sheets, I'd definitely give that a try too. Can't hurt to ask.
I have a ruined duvet cover (on the top) from makeup or something , will not come out, it's expensive to replace duvet covers. and no other guest has ever done this..... they also broke the rules regarding noise and partying, bringing the action outside to the front of the house in a very populated residential area late at night. On a side note my permanent coffee filter also disapeared during their stay. Not sure weather I should be keeping a portion of the security fee, I don't want a resulting bad review to harm my listing.
Do you have a security deposit? I would think that was what it was for. I have had to keep some of that money, and it was a simple enough process.
