Left bad review because of the weather and her anger that I did not refund her money

A recent guest left a public review saying she enjoyed her stay, but then in her private comments she said she thought it was unfair that I did not refund a portion of or all of her rent because the TV was predicting rain. She then left a 2 star review which is lower than I have ever received and I am sure it is because of her distorted view of traveling. My home is on the Gulf Coast and we have periodic "pop up showers." There are many activities that are indoors and I have never heard of someone feeling entitled to getting their money back because of the weather. I want to call airbnb to see if they will delete the review because it has dropped my % to 79 and I was hoping to achieve super host status. Any advice?

Hello,

If there's anything falsely mentioned in the review or if the review doesn't follow review guidelines or if the rating doesn't reflect the experience then Airbnb will definitely delete the review for you. Contact them.

Hi @Alan21,

I am sorry to deliver bad news but Airbnb will not remove this review and they will not change the star ratings.  Yes, it is not fair but you need to trust me on this.  I recently had a guest who had a great time and provided great feedback throughout their stay.  They ended up sneaking in 3 extra guests in which I could prove and Airbnb charged them for the extra guests.  They left me a negative review and gave me 2 stars across the board even though I could show their positive messages through the messaging system.  Not only did they leave me low stars and a bad review, they immediately closed their account and now nobody can cross-reference with my review of them.  I have been fighting with Airbnb on this issue and am still in talks with two very high ranking Airbnb employees who will hopefully in the end make this right.

These are the two issues I have:

1) Airbnb should not allow reviews if you have to escalate a resolution request as there is no way a host will end up with a positive review.

2) Guests should not be allowed to leave a "revenge review" and then close down their account.  I believe if they close down their account, their review of hosts should go with the account.

I should say @Alan21 that if the guest used extortion such as, "if you do not refund me money, I am going to leave you a bad review", they may remove the review if you can prove it.  With that said, my guest told me that "if I charge him for the extra guests, he will report me" in which I responded there is nothing to report so go ahead.  They apparently did not see this as extortion.

I will be making a full post on this issue in the future especially if Airbnb does not make us whole again!

Good luck @Allen and I would love to hear an update on how things work out for you.

Dave

@Alan21  What??? You don't control the weather??  I live in earthquake country...I wonder if I would be expected to control the earth? Since she privately documented she thought it was unfair for you not to give her a refund because of the weather, I think it's worth a call to Airbnb.  You might or you might not suceed but if it's there in black and white, it has the tinge of extortion which Airbnb will certainly act upon.   If you decide to contact Airbnb, please let us know  their response to your plea.  Here's how to contact them (twitter is best @airbnbhelp):
