Milwaukee and local tax law changes

It has come to my attention that the Milwaukee Bed and Breakfast Association is taking legal action against AirBnB and its hosts in the Milwaukee area regarding taxes and hosting fees. This seems to be a domino effect across major cities in the United States and abroad. We need representation from corporate AirBnB in order to combat these attacks and keep our earning potential high. If you look at cities like Chicago, for example, there are now local taxes and fees that increase the cost to the consumer by over 25%. This cannot happen without having equal representation and compromise from both sides. AirBnB needs to step up and help its hosts!

Where I am Hotels and B&B's list on AirBnB, does that not happen in your area. Why would they be against the hand that feeds them?

So Airbnb is starting to collect fees in Wisconsin for the following:

  • Sales Tax
  • County Taxes
  • Local Exposition Tax
  • Basic Room Tax
  • Additional Room Tax
  • Premier Resort Area Tax
  • Baseball Stadium Tax

So I paid taxes on the money I made to buy the building, taxes on the money collected for renting the place, real estate taxes, taxes on the materials I buy to furnish the place, and now all of these????  Because you know the guest is going to ask to have a reduction to compensate for these additional charges.  And why is it so freaking hard to find out the percentage of these taxes?  I have an email into my accountant -- hopefully, he can find out.

I saw the notification that as of July 1, 2017 taxes will be  collected by Air BnB for room rental in Milwaukee. The links and other information I read offered no specifics. Does anyone else in Milwaukee know the tax amounts? Is this a surcharge Air BnB adds and is paid directly by the guest? A little more information would be helpful.
