My guest went through my stuff and sprayed with something unfamiliar/possibly took some stuff as wel

I had a guest recently stay that was very hard to please and I could tell was unhappy with her stay. After she left, I noticed things were not as I left them. Papers had been gone through, things had been touched, even my eye cream box (I have tons of makeup and skincare b/c I used to work in cosmetic)  was soaking wet b/c something w/fragrance had been sprayed on it. I feel totally uncomfortable and violated. I don't know if she sprayed it with disenfectant or something else like bug spray, but it makes me weary to have to use something on my face that might have been tampered with since the box was soaking wet.  I'm actually worried to use a bunch of stuff just b/c I know where everything was when I left and know it wasn't in the same place. Some of my full face cream was missing. Hi think she actually cost me more money than I made on her stay. ow do I handle her review? Short of calling her a thrift, how can I handle it in a nice way so it sounds diplomatic even though  I am super upset at the Gaul of this person.  I appreciate your help!!! I mean a thief*

My experience is, people are curious and like to snoop by nature, so if possible, you should remove all personal items or lock them up to limit access if you don't want people to tamper with, remove, use or touch your things.

I think in cases like yours, many hosts would go for the "this guest would be better suited in a hotel setting" review.

I'm a bit confused, @Lisa665.  Your listing is an entire apartment so I wouldn't expect your stuff to be there, unless you rent it out when you are not using it.  Is that the case?  If so, you need to remove your personal items to a locked cabinet.  As @Jessica-and-Henry0 mentioned, guests do get nosey.  It is up to you to set the boundaries.  As to your review, it appears that any details you put in the review about messing with your stuff is not necessary if you simply use the better suited to a hotel reference.

@Linda108 and @Jessica-and-Henry0 I realize that that would be ideal, but my apartment is small maybe 600-650 sq ft. Not a ton of room and I stay at my boyfriends whose apartment is about the same size as mine. The papers were in a bin, not out in a drawer. Any other suggestions for me and/or my review? I was already planning on leaving a hotel review, but I feel like I was violated and don't want this to happen to another host.

@Lisa665 If you normally live there and stay at your bf's when you have guests, I would think finding a way to clear away personal items as one of the most important things to do in order to host. You don't have to clear out everything - just personal items in the bathroom and preferably your cosmetics, jewelry (regardless of value) and valuables. I hope your closet and drawers have locks on them 🙂

If the better suited for hotel is insufficient, just add something like "After check-out, I was surprised to find that the guest had reorganized my cosmetics and other personal items in the cabinet."

My listing is a guest room in my home which is also an apartment (64m2, which is about 680ft2) so I think it's more about organizing than the actual amount of space that is available. Happy hosting~
