So the strict policy has been updated recently (I think a few weeks ago?) and now includes a grace period:
"Full refund for cancellations made within 48 hours of booking, if the check-in date is at least 14 days away. 50% refund for cancellations made at least 7 days before check-in. No refunds for cancellations made within 7 days of check-in."
Quite frankly, I'm very angry about this decision. I understand how this is attractive for guests but it attracts bookings from people who are still in "browsing mode". I've already had two guests who booked and we agreed on check-in time, etc. I have spent 30+ mins on my time dealing with each of their bookings for them to only go ahead and cancel as they found something else they prefer. I, as a host, get nothing for my time wasted. Airbnb still gets their fee from another booking.
I always strive for speedy and polite responses. Quite frankly, I'm considering not speaking to guests who booked for the first 48 hours so I'm not wasting my time? What does everyone think about this new cancellation policy?
