Does anyone have any recommendations for other rental services? Airbnbs phenomenally bad customer service, terrible new policies, inability to adequately protect hosts and lack of will to accept input has got me ready to abandon ship.

There is a reason why Airbnb is as popular as it is. Once you remove the reasons to call them at all, and you do not let them solve any guest-host issues by  preventing them from coming up in the first place - Airbnb is 'perfect'.  The opposite is a bit of a nightmare.

As to input, outside their somewhat inbred culture they are making some efforts in that department. I am part of a program where I get to give personal opinion on their features, and they are indeed now asking discreetly a heck of a lot of important questions from selected hosts throughout the world.
