Proof of emergency for canceling reservation

I had to cancel a reservation this past weekend because I found out my grandmother was being admitted to the hospital as she is in the end stages of Stage 4 Colon Cancer. I was scheduled to go out of town which is why I listed my apartment but had to stay back home and be with my grandmother as she is likely to pass away over the next few days. My question is what kind of evidence or document would be best to show Air BnB to prove this? Thanks for your help.

@Christopher417 - Sorry to hear your news. Ask Airbnb the same question, much better getting it from them. Get in touch with them ASAP to avoid penalties.

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother.

As Gordon mentioned, phone Airbnb and ask them what your options are. Extenuating circunstances are valid to cancel a reservation. You might need some proof of that though. Success!
