Registered guest is not checking in - her boyfriend is

Hello fellow hosts!

I have a new situation that has come up today and I am not sure how to handle it.

A young woman booked with me for 5 nights about 6 weeks ago, for her and her boyfriend. They are supposed to check in this afternoon, but she has let me know that she can't come, only her boyfriend is coming.

I was already a bit reticent to host them because she did not have any reviews on her profile, but I went over the house rules with her and I felt okay with the reservation so went ahead with it.

But now, she's not coming at all. I only have her boyfriend's first name, no contact information and her reassurance that she's passed all the information on to him. (But not correctly, since she says he's arriving at noon, when check in time is clearly 3pm)

I'm not okay with a non-registered guest, as I have no recourse if things go wrong.

I also don't want to cancel a reservation at the last minute, as really, maybe it will be okay. Also don't want to lose my superhost status.

Has anyone faced this before? Can you suggest a few options for me?

With thanks,

Deryn

You're not okay with a non-registered guest, as you have have no recourse if things go wrong.

Call Airbnb, explain guest is breaking the rules.

Airbnb will cancel

@Deryn0 Quickest way to deal with it is to tell her that her current booking is now classed as a third party booking as the profile holder has to be the guest/stayer.  Air bnb do not permit third party bookings.  Get her to add her boyfriends name and his details to her profile and upload a photo of both of them.  That way you should be covered.

If you are uncomfortable hosting him - tell her she has to cancel as it is NOW a third party booking and these are not allowed by air bnb.  Call air bnb just to cover yourself.  DO NOT CANCEL YOURSELF as you will be penalised.

@Lyn-and-Gavin0@Paul154Thanks so much for your responses. I just called Airbnb and they could see that the boyfriend is listed as a second guest on the booking and that he does have a profile with a good rating and reviews.

I think the registered guest must have just added this, as I can't yet see it from my end, but the second guest is apparently registered as well so that feels better to me.

Also, I did not know that I could just call up Airbnb about a booking and get a response right away! So that is really good to know.

Thanks again for your quick replies and support! Much appreciated.

I had the same situation and after the guest arrived, the person who made the reservation didn't answer my text.
