The home of hard knocks

fullsizeoutput_3ae2.jpegWhite walls - for me at least - add a little 'boutique chic' to a fairly smallish (but not by London standards) room. So that's what I went with. But while they're beautiful when freshly-painted, white walls suffer badly from the odd knock.

I'm not sure what people are dragging along this particular wall, but the black marks on it appear after every other guest. I'm guessing wheely cases or similar.

Diamond scrubbable paint, yes, but what a faff to have to clean the walls time after time.

Are white walls just daft, or is there another way to protect my pearly white (walls)?

@Gordon0 How about some nice, white padded walls??? 😉

My husband would gladly have me stay in a padded cell myself!

And acompanying straight jackets so they can't tuss the suitcases around.

@Rebecca181  @Fred13 LOL 😄

@Gordon0 if wall colour is black then scratch marks will show, if it is white you will have scratches and stains.. washable colour is our everyday solution, and then once a year we retouch it with a brush and paint.  But did you think about peel and stick wood wall panels? Something like this, just ligher colour: http://driftwoodfurnitures.com/product/reclaimed-barn-wood-wall-panel-easy-peel-and-stick-applicatio...

Or some interesting ceramic tiles for lower part of those walls? Something like this maybe: https://www.modwalls.com/rex-ray-studio-ceramic-tile-rox-lunar-white.html

Hi @Gordon0

It is really very annoying to find marks on the wall.

If you had some picture of the marks and the height it usually appears it would be easy to have a better idea about them and give some suggestion.

Well, from my experience, what I have notice is that, most of the mark on the wall appears due the following reasons:

1-It is the back of some chair that scratches the wall.
2-If there is a desk against the wall with a chair, sometimes it appears marks on the wall bellow the table. The guest kick accidentally the wall when he is using his computer or whatsoever.

3-If the luggage rack, is against the wall, when the guests open the bag, they make the open half of the bag lean against the wall and maybe it leave marks, depending on the type of bag.
4-If there is no luggage rack, they put the bag on the floor, next to the wall, and do the same with the bag.

5-Another very comon cause to marks on the wall are the ones that happens when there is a narrow space between the bed and the wall, and the guest has to go algong with the luggage to enter the room to find a place to leave the bag. Some guests arrive very tired and "staggering" after a long flight and enter the room dragging the luggage  without much caution, since probably the only thing they want is to rest for a while.

Hi @J-Renato0

I'm 95% sure that the marks are caused by wheelie cases. The vast majority of my guests are on city breaks and - as is the done thing these days - come with hand luggage only, ie. those little wheely cases. Being nimble, they can get in the narrow gaps...henced the marks.

Hey ho!
