I had this happen with my top dishwasher rack.  The guests squeezed too many dishes in it, and it broke. It was complicated to get it fixed, because it broke both the rack and the railing that the rack fit into.   I’m just absorbing it as “normal wear and tear”, although it really isn’t, since the dishwasher is only a year old. It was obviously guest abuse.  Sometimes I just don’t want to get into a hassle with the guests saying it “just broke on its own”, and then getting Airbnb involved, who in my experience is likely to side with the guest.

If you do try to get the guest to pay for the oven door, please let us know how it goes.

I think it depends on how it happened.

We had  2 issues with the fridge this year.  One guests arrived (whilst my housekeeper was just finishing up) with masses and masses of food.  They completely overloaded/packed the fridge  and shattered a glass shelf - they fessed up to it and offered to pay for the replacement (which I gladly accepted).

Another couple managed to shatter a side pocket shelf - they also offered to cover the replacement without being asked.

One large chap broke a dining chair but blamed a loose screw - I covered the cost of that one as it would have been a ‘he said - she said’.

I just had a host contact me and said that the glass on his oven door was cracked and is claiming damage.  I was there for a week and used the oven on three occasions but did not notice anything wrong.  I certainly know how to use an oven, and nothing unusual occurred.  I loved the place and left it in immaculate condition.  What to do?
