OK. I just hung up from "customer service". I called to ask why the booking calendar (for guests) is showing dates which are either already booked, or closed, as available dates. The answer is the most absurd thing I've heard in a long time. The calendar now reflects not only dates available for booking, but also dates available for "check out". What on earth were you thinking?? Who needs to see dates which are available for check out. If a date is available to book, then the next day is clearly available for checkout. This calendar is deceptive!! You will lose guests in frustration. NO booking site ANYWHERE (public or private) has a calendar that shows dates available for booking and dates available for checkout exactly the same. Why on earth would you do this?? IF you insist on this absurdity you could at least color code, or differentiate the dates in some way. You are setting yourself up for HUGE problems. And setting us hosts up for loss of bookings and/or very frustrated guests. PLEASE RETURN THE CALENDAR TO HOW IT WAS.
The booking calender show it this way for a long time already, so it is not new. The check-out dates are shown for listings which are setup in a way check-in/out is only possible on certain days of the week.
For example: a listing which can only be booked for 1 or multiple weeks, with checkin/out on a Friday
Although some more coloring could indeed improve the calender.
Best regards,
Emiel
There is no option for a host to list check OUT days of the week as unavailable...only check in days of the week are not available, as far as I can tell. Why would anyone need to search for check OUT dates, as opposed to check IN dates. One would start by entering a check IN date, followed by a heck OUT date. One starts with a check IN date. This is crazy.
If you first click on "check-out" in the booking form, you can choose a check-out date first. It has allways been this way. and IMO there is nothing wrong with it.
Precisely. This is absurd.
That's bass ackwards. Why would anyone chose a check out date first??
Perhaps I did not notice this when it first occurred as I am usually fully booked. My listing is NOT set up for checkout dates only on certain days of the week. This offers me NO benefit and only serves to piss off guests who see a date as bookable, believe what they see and try to book it.
This must be corrected. I will not stand for my guests being deceived, and that is exactly what is happening. BTW. I have hosted nearly 900 guests from 9 countries at my one listing. I have 303 reviews averaging 4.99 stars. I am, or should be a valued host.
I have to disagree, its only showing available check in days when I look. Which is the same as mine shows.
Not when I pull it up...unless they have gone in and fixed it. My "guest calendar" is not the same as yours. Yours is correct.
I looked at your listing and do not see unusal things on the booking calender. Dates shown as available can be selected and a quote is offered. Offcourse i did not submit the actual booking request, but when just simulating a booking it looks fine. But you stated "calendar (for guests) is showing dates which are either already booked, or closed, as available dates." Below a screenshot available dates in november/december:
Perhaps they have fixed it. This is not what I have been seeing .
The app on my phone differentiates between bookable dates (showing prices) and the dates that appear to be open but do not show prices (because they are already booked or closed). When I look on my laptop all dates appear exactly the same..as open dates, until you click on one. I'm glad to see your screen shots, but it is not what I see on my end. So...there is a problem somewhere.
In defense of this new calendar, I lost a $500 booking once because a guest I was communicating with withdrew her "pre-approval" and booked another place. When I asked her why she said that she checked her dates and need to stay until Friday. She noticed on my calendar that Friday was unavailable (blocked out.) It was unavailable for check in on Friday night but still available for check out that day.
As hosts, we think in terms of 'nights' but guests don't always see it this way. I don't think the new calendar is a bad thing. When the guest clicks on the dates it clearly shows them which 'nights' can and cannot be booked.
P.s For hosts who are not seeing this change try searching from an incognito browser.
