underage children staying solo

underage children staying solo

A mother approached me wanting her two children (16 and 19) to stay at our apartment without her in order that they might attend a three day event.  No this is not a share situation but an entire apartment that they would occupy.  I hesitate since they are technically minors.  They are reportedly "responsible" but isn't that what every parent says about their offspring?  🙂  I don't think it's a good idea but I am a new host and am looking for feedback and experience from other hosts.

If it were me, I would say "Third-party reservations are against Airbnb rules.  The guest making the reservation is the guest who stays at my place.  Also, I only approve a reservation if there is at least one adult present."

It is not worth the potential headache.

This happened to me a few months back. I can laugh about this now, but seriously, am I the strange one to be thinking "what is wrong with these parents?"

I'm not sure about laws where you live, but in Korea, those 2 teenagers would not be able to check-in or stay at a hotel on their own, without a parent.
