Guests receiving mail

Guests receiving mail

Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm a new host. I have a current guest (13 day booking) trying to receive mail at our listing. As this is something I did not think about prior I am concerned. Our listing is in a rural area with key accessible, block wide boxes to receive mail. The item ordered is not a necessity or, of immediate importance but, 1. I would like to keep our guests happy while also not driving 90 miles each way.

2. This concerns me for a variety of reasons( Not with this specific guest per say but in the future) IE; "Claiming residency"

Any advice would be so appreciated.

@Lisa7068  You are right to be concerned. Accepting mail can give the appearance of residency. Don’t do it

Thank you @Basha0 !

@Lisa7068  Guests who want to receive mail can have it sent to the local post office.  NEVER allow guests to have anything delivered to the mailbox at your rental property.

Quite a lot of discussion on this topic here: https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/Do-you-let-guests-receive-mail/m-p/964607#M242042

Personally, I do not like it. I make exceptions for certain things, like Amazon packages and food deliveries, but only because I now host just long term stays, i.e. 1-6 months. I absolutely am not happy with guests using my address for any official purposes, such as registering bank accounts, credit cards, social security etc.

As you cannot know what is in the mail if we are talking letters or unbranded packages, it's better to simply say no. Make it clear in your house rules. You will probably get some guests who simply ignore this, but at least it will cut down on the amount of mail.
