Hi Air B n B
As a regular stayer - I have a few issues for review
1. The concept - we wont tell you exact location until you book or until 2 days prior. This unfortunate as Location, Location, Location is critical to my decision making
2. Is there a rule on linen changes and quality - I have found particularly in Italy and Greece, we are provided with the cheapest Linen and few changes
3. In 3 previous stays I have had to buy a Toaster - essential for Americans, English etc
4. Some BASIC rules should be implemented for Minimum stocking of Kitchen, Cleaning utensils - every stay I have had to buy - a Dish Brush, Sink Plug, worn out sponges, Tea Towel, etc
5. Again a Microwave should be an essential
@Adam1836
for 2,3,4 and 5, you can message the host before you make a reservation.
Regarding kitchen sponges etc, I don't list them but I do supply new kitchen dishwashing basics because I would appreciate the same.
If a potential guest looks at my listing, he/she can scroll down the page and select "AMENITIES" to view a detailed inventory of almost every item I supply.
1. Is for security reasons. Sadly there are some unscrupulous people out there who target holiday homes. Also I have had a guest turn up the week before arrival date, just to check out the property, which was occupied at the time.
2. This all depends on the host and length of time you are staying. If people are staying a week or longer, I offer a change of linens and towels 1/2 way through their stay. Most decline.
3. I wouldn't say a toaster is essential if there is a grill but as @Bob297 said, you can always ask the host these things before you book.
4. Again, check with the host before booking.
5. For me, a microwave is not essential, I find that if it is essential for guests, most check with me before booking. Also you can also look at the amenities section, to see if this option in ticked.
I find the thing to remember is that every country is different, what might be essential for Americans or English is not essential for Italians or Chinese say. The French can't get their heads around a full English breakfast. The English can't get their heads around dipping a chocolate croissant into a bowl of Hot Chocolate first thing in the morning !
Every Airbnb is different and sometimes they are not all perfect, but if unsure just ask the host, they might have forgot to put in the T-Towel or dish brush.
Hope this helps.
@Adam1836 Wow. You expect to travel around the world and dictate to hosts that they need to supply certain things according to YOUR preferences? Sounds pretty entitled to me.
The overwhelming response you've gotten here is to read the listing details carefully, and to communicate with your host BEFORE booking if you have any questions.
If the listing doesn't meet YOUR standards, then don't book. Apparently you don't understand what AirBnB does. It's a listing platform that connects guests with hosts, and implements a few rules about conduct on both sides. It has no power to dictate to hosts how to run their properties. Hosts must meet certain performance standards to remain on the platform, but other than that, it's up to hosts what to provide.
Location? Here's a little hint: Without asking a host for their exact address, you can ask how far away they are from Location X, and how long it might take you to walk or Uber from their place to the place you need to go. Easy peasy. You can ask that BEFORE booking.
Maybe AirBnB isn't for you. A hotel may suit you better.
Hi @Adam1836
One of the many awesome things about Airbnb is that each listing is different, allowing for creativity and individuality, and it gives Hosts the ability to provide a listing that represents their unique style while giving Airbnb guests a myriad of options to choose from when looking for a place to stay.
The solutions suggested by @Kia272, @Ruth413, @Deb216 and @Bob297 are solid, and I hope that they help you find something that's more in line with your expectations next time.
As an Airbnb guest myself, I particularly find messaging a Host ahead of booking to be helpful, as they're great at giving me the information I need to make a decision fast.
