my card was used by another person we don’t know. They booked a reservation in Albany NY under the name ** as we can see from the credit card receipt. This is an unauthorized use and charge and Airbnb claims it was a family member or friend that used the card . We don’t know this person . How do we cancel and get a refund for the booking we didn’t make?

The best answer is: file a police report in your local law enforcement regarding the fraud. File an FTC complaint against AirBNB. File an FBI report for fraud if this fraud happened across state lines in the US. File a fraud report with the credit card. Don't let the bank agent tell you it's a disputed charge. It's fraud! Open a case with Airbnb, you may have to chat on line, email or talk on the phone with 10 support agents. They are stubborn, they send you a scripted response that a family member or friend used your card. They won't share any information regarding the booking. I managed to find those details on the Credit card charge receipt from the bank. I saw the booking code, the name of the person who made the charge and the AIRbnb property posting. You can reach the host of the property from there. I did contact law enforcement from the town the property was located and filed a police report there too. The local Law enforcement will ask for evident which you should be able to provide using the complaints filed. Since this case is still open, the officers plan to visit the fraudster at the airbnb property. I hope that person gets arrested. I will press charges. As for Airbnb, after 15 contact points and providing evident. I found Airbnbs response to the matter very very disappointing. Make's me want to consider using VRBO in the future. Have it not being for me having 5 open reservations right now, I would have canceled my account and never look at Airbnb again.
@Juan5348 why waste time and money on a lawyer. Just report the fraud to your bank and let them deal with it if you can't get Airbnb to listen.
Hi
Unfortunately, I have the same experience with Airbnb fraud !!
I think right now this has become their method to charge illegally people around the world.
I just want to ask if anyone has started legal pursuit about this issue?
This will happen again and again if we do not react properly.
So please let me know if anyone got some info about the follow-up of this case.
Hi @Carlos5460, i'm facing the same issues as yours. i did not do any booking from Airbnb but my CC was charged unexpectedly at RM3.2K. i was notified by sms from the bank. How do you report this fraud to Airbnb and the host/property? how do you find the host/property at the first place?
@Rebecca @Paula, any ways you can assist me with this matter?
Hello @Nadiah7,
I'm sorry to hear you're in this situation! Have you contacted your banks, as well as Airbnb customer support to report this?

I called the police in the area the Airbnb crime was reported. I filled a police report and also alerted the Airbnb host , the charge showed the property listed and I looked up the property on Airbnb and found the hosts name and contact info , I sent a message to the host alerting them of the crime and got the police to show up at the property. They showed up too late to apprehend them l. I did report it to thr credit card company and provided a copy of the police report. I was credited the amount of the fraudulent charge . The perpetrators weee never caught but I did offer to press charges and appears in court
