Domestic US Travel coronavirus

Hello all! I know there are lots of discussions regarding the coronavirus and international travel. But I am hosting in the states and usually only have guests from the states stay with me. Does anyone know the policy for this? I have a guest in Madison, Wisconsin that cancelled day of (today) and I live in Chicago, Illinois. Do you think Airbnb will permit a full refund or do we think that they should? Thoughts welcome!!

I do not agree with this. I have guests traveling from Chicago to Michigan and because of the new updates to their cancelation policy I am loosing 100% on this. Guests are getting 100% refund. With 2 cases in Michigan?
new policy - everyone is USA gets a full refund  up until April 18th (i believe)

@Elizabeth1855  I have mostly US travellers. I've had a small number of cancellations, mainly due to events being cancelled.  Maybe more will cancel, after today.

I don't really think there's anything that can be done at this point, since health departments are advising people not to take non-essential travel, at least in the short term.

I have a "Moderate" cancellation policy, so pretty much everyone who cancelled is getting their money back. I'm not up to date with any Airbnb policy changes that may have occurred today, so I don't know if guests are getting the fees back too.

My cancellations have said they'll keep me bookmarked for a later date, so if their events are re-scheduled, things may pick back up later in the year.

My local guests are cancelling and receiving 100% refund for the EC related to the Coronavirus, which overrides my strict policy. Tough times I hope eases up sooner than later.

"Airbnb has updated its "extenuating circumstances" policy to cover the U.S., a marked change as the coronavirus spreads across the globe.

This policy means that hosts and guests impacted by the coronavirus outbreak will be able to cancel their homes reservation or Airbnb Experience without getting charged.

"For reservations in the United States, Airbnb’s Extenuating Circumstances policy applies to reservations booked on or before March 13, 2020, with check-in date of April 1, 2020 or earlier," Airbnb said in a statement.

As is consistent with reservations under this policy, guests will receive a full refund (fees included), and hosts will not incur cancellation fees. Hosts can also accept new reservations for these rescheduled dates. Airbnb will refund all the fees in question."

Hosts are starting to get hit really hard with cancellations. Now Airbnb is overriding the host cancellation policy and is basically refunding ALL cancellations. At the risk of sounding heartless, this is proving to be a horrible policy for hosts. In the future, Airbnb should simplify their cancellation policy to offer trip insurance for guests. Either they buy the insurance or give up the right to a refund. Just like the airlines do it.
