First Horrible Hosting Experience

First Horrible Hosting Experience

Hello, I had a guest check in then slowly move what I can only say was about the size of a 1 bedroom apartment into the one room he booked. I host out of my home, he did this gradually while I was out and by the time I caught on it was well into the stay. He was booked for 17 days but I could only make it to day 12 with him in my home. I do not want to medically diagnose him but he was …. I am replaying the events in my head and now thinking perhaps this was a scam? He kept doing little things that eventually just snowballed. I have a low noise environment notice in my listing, He would go into the kitchen at around 2am and start making noises with the pots while cooking. He would slam doors, go into the kitchen fridge randomly while I was watching tv, wouldn’t get anything and slam the door. I had a talk to him about all these and he would just look at me and continue doing what he was doing or walk away. He used some limestone crystals in the washer and dryer that now leave a white cast on everything. I have cleaned it out on numerous cycles and it’s still happening even though the guest is gone. I would be sitting and this guy would just stare, it was really creepy. I started to not feel comfortable in my own home and this was a first. My husband travels for work and he came home on the 10th day of the guest’s stay and things seemed to improve because  the guest completely stayed out of sight when he realized another person was in the home. I made my husband aware I was uncomfortable with the guest so he always made sure he was around me. On the 12th day the guest was the first to leave the home, once he was gone my husband went out to run errands, we have security cameras on the front of the home and a camera door bell with motion censors so my phone chimes when anyone comes into the home. The back door has a door chime as well. The door chime did not make a sound and on review after he was gone, he wasn’t caught anywhere on the camera. This guy had disabled the back door chime and left the backdoor unlock before leaving so he could come back in without anyone knowing! Luckily I was in the pantry at the time and bolted for the front door when he came in. Now, I do not know his intentions but I wasn’t sticking around to find out, that’s how you end up as a dead body on the crime shows. I waited outside for my husband and when he arrived we both went in and I asked him to leave, he said and I quote “ I am not leaving till my full money is returned I know the rules” . I called Airbnb to cancel the booking, told them I didn’t feel safe and they needed to get him out of my home. He kept a very level tone telling me he doesn’t know why I am acting crazy and over reacting, he actually said I reminded him of his mother! Pulled out his camera and everything,  Then went upstairs and turned on the TV like nothing was happening. I called Airbnb nonstop to get this lunatic out of my home with no luck, an agent actually told me their emergency response line WASNT available and if I canceled I should be aware they would fully refund the guest and I would lose my superhost status. This event was at 1:45pm, this person did not leave till 8:30pm even though I had canceled his booking and all! No one from Airbnb reached out to check if I was still breathing or if the guest actually did leave till almost 9pm. This is very upsetting and unsettling for me, we now have cameras in the back yard and have made accommodations for blind spots as well. He was fully refunded and I am left afraid and asking what my next course of action is?

@Mutiat0 , thats the Darryl guy right?

Sounds like a total Psycho.

I hope you gave him no stars and I hope you realise that he is the problem and you are the lovely person offering accommodation in your own home.

I do not host anyone over 7 nights..

People will read his review and see him as a demon.

Good on you for standing up to this weirdo.

Cheers, Charles
