Guests leaving large unwanted items behind deliberately

My most recent guests have off loaded their supplies consisting of food items, cleaning products, large bottle of alcohol, 2 large sleeping mats and clothing. They also filled the large council rubbish bin for the property. I will need to make a trip to a dumping station 20kms away. Am I expected to cover this cost?
I messaged to ask if they realised they left it all, as the sleeping matts had been tucked into the very hidden corner of a cupboard. She said yes they couldnt take them with them.

Hi @Stacey46

What did you do about this situation in the end? Did you reach out to the guest again regarding their belongings or manage to make a trip to the dumping station?

We look forward to hearing how you dealt with this eventually.

@Stacey46 Yes Stacey it happens, maybe the bottle of alchohol was a present. Who knows , I suspect they had to leave to catch a plane and just offloaded all they did not really need. Send a request for an extra cleaning fee to the guest and .. Good Luck ... H

@Stacey46  I am a drive-to location, and many guests will leave behind food, personal hygiene items, alcohol and other things, large and small.  I have had guests for 2days who fill the garbage cans to bursting while others are here for two weeks and have a single large bag of trash.

Yes, you will have to cover the cost of the trip to the dumping station.  Add a few dollars to your nightly rate to reimburse yourself for the guest who fills the bin, especially if you find that you have to make the trip more and more often.  It is not worth asking the past guest for compensation.
