Host asks for pictures of all guests ID

Hi please confirm the host asked for everyone to send pictures of there ID. I thought this was only for when you arrive. This does not feel right.

Kindly send an enumerated LIST of FULL NAMES and pictures of VALID IDs of all guests (including children and visitors) so we can send you your Guest Authorization Letter.

This will serve as your Check in Letter to be submitted to the reception area once you arrive at the building

If you read through ABB policy you will see the word "May" mentioned.

You have the legal right and option to provide any form of ID in person, as in face to face.

It's been long known that copies of personal documents may be sighted only by the relevant department and should not be copied - indeed legislation is very clear about copying Government documents.

Ask the host how they propose to comply with the collection, retention and how long they are intending to keep a copy of your private information in accordance with the relevant Privacy legislation.

It's important people start to ask this question as our Government documents are our private information and may contain sensitive information.

You may also like to raise this with your Privacy Commissioner.

Which county are you visiting?  There are a few countries in Europe where it is mandatory to supply such information so was just wondering if you might be falling under this legal requirement?

You may like to keep your Private Government documents to yourself and off line as you are intending to stay in a country that's known to have high risk factors with creating fake documents using others Identities - well that's what we have learnt keeping a watchful eye on related news.

Perhaps reinforce the fact you may present yourselves in person with if necessary a copy of your ID should it be required when you get there.

In the meantime, reflect on how people in the past presented themselves when staying in another place or country.

Life is still the same as far as how we meet others we may not know.

Take a leaf out of Historic newspaper advertising for booking accommodation.

As far as your Government documents are concerned it's Immigration who require to know where you will be staying as has been the case since at least the 1800's Legislation in case a person goes missing or dies etc interstate.

Businesses also need a name and contact details of whom is paying when it comes to Income Tax however not all people operate ABB accommodation as a Business nor do they necessarily have to pay Tax as they may be Exempt for whatever reason.

Business documents are usually done in Triplicate copies so make sure you request and are provided your copies to of the related documents.

I ended up cancelling the booking.

I booked another accommodation and they asked for IDs and stated they only needed name and photo. They also advised  I can  cover/hide everything else as they don't require anything else
