New Potential Scam Nov 2024

This has happened twice in 48 hours - We get a text to both numbers tied to our AirBnb account saying "Go to https://air.tl/XXXXXXXX to confirm your account" (XXXXXXXX is a unique mix of letters and numbers).

This is followed by an in app message from AirBnb that says "Please confirm your account details. This will help our specialists resolve your issue faster once you're connected.

The first time, I then received a call from an AirBnb Specialist (or someone claiming to be) on one of our phones, who stated that they needed to verify our identity. I refused to give them even my name and asked what prompted the call and who they were trying to reach. The caller said they received a call from my number but they could not hear me. So, they were calling me to ensure I was ok. I explained we were fine (we were actually in an AirBnb at the time and all was well) and said I think my number was spoofed as I did not call you. There was NO chance of mis-dial on my part as I was working on my computer desk and my phone was arms length away on side table.

The second time, the first two things above also occurred, followed by an in-app message from AirBnb Support that said "I'm Jessa J. with AirBnB and I help support our community. We take security very seriously, so first and foremost we want to make sure that your account is secure. Due to this we were unable to answer any questions without first verifying specific account information. For better security and service in the future, please login to your account to update and verify your phone number on file. If you did not contact us by phone, please visit the following page and login to the AirBnb website (not the app): https://www.airbnb.com/review_your_account." This was followed by some other links to support articles on various topics.

@Jessica4134

You could message Airbnb support (a new query, not a response to what was sent to you) and ask them to review the activity so they can investigate, confirm whether it was legitimate, and let you know what was going on.

I had done this prior to my post. They are not able to explain the situation, although they have made an effort to "resolve" this. My post was made as an alert to others in case others are experiencing this. The more we are all aware and share these types of things, it can help AirBnb identify the source of the problem.

It's possible you Airbnb account was hacked. It might be a good idea to change your password if you haven't already.

Yes, of course. Changed it three times in the past week =).
