When do guests get address?

Just wondering if guests get access to the property address immediately upon booking. I just confirmed a guest for a booking in 3 weeks and she asked for the address. I usually send it a couple days before their arrival. Should I provide it this early? Do they get that information in their confirmation from Airbnb?

@Ashley1783,

2 days after you accepted her booking you should receive a confirmation email from Airbnb.

confirming her payment was completed.   Then it would be an acceptable time to give her your address if she is anxious.  Airbnb usually sends it (your address) to the guest at that time also.

Another reason to wait 2 days?

So the 48 hour cancellation period has passed.

@Ashley1783 On the listing dashboard there is a Location sharing setting that provides the option to disclose the address and your contact number only after the free cancellation period has ended.  If it's not selected, the address is immediately provided in the itinerary.  It's been my experience that many guests don't behave as if reading will cause an injury and want to be told info rather than read (e.g., listing description, house rules, messages, and itinerary).

The address is usually shared closer to the actual reservation via Airbnb messages. Most hosts don’t provide the actual address on the map as it can be a security issue. I’ve had guests ask for the bus/uber/lyft/time from airport and I’ve told them approx times depending on day, time of day and traffic.

I’ve given closest major intersections or a major landmark nearby if someone wants details before they book. A school, park or business as then they can use that address as an estimate. You can read the help articles to find out why Airbnb does not share the address immediately.

Airbnb sends address to guest 48 hrs prior to guest arrival*

We follow this protocol, as it is an added layer of safety…

also, .a guest can show bad behavior after booking, and we do not want them to have our address,,,if we need to emergency cancel them

@Alex1485,

Airbnb provides the street address after a reservation is confirmed unless the host has enabled the address privacy option:  https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/2141
, and they send the check-in instructions 48 hours before the guest's scheduled arrival: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/100.

Hello!

Can someone advise airbnb that their cs ambassadors are giving incorrect info to hosts regarding the address, as our team contacted  airbnb Cs on 3 separate occasions … they all stated: customer gets address on,y 48 hrs before arrival.

Hello @Ashley1783 ,

From the other comments, I've learned that there are different approaches in different localities. I can't recommend what is better; I can only share my practice.

Immediately after booking, I share the address so the guests can confirm that the location fits their needs or satisfies their curiosity. If they don't like the location, I'm happy that they cancel before it's too late. It is very rare that they do. I don't want disappointed guests.

Hi Ashley, I have a canned confirmation message that gets sent to guests around an hour after booking that pre-empts this question. Within this message I simply state "Airbnb usually send you an itinerary a few days prior to arrival (with full location, wifi & other details)" & that we will be in touch with further directions on how to locate the property & keys etc.

I do have a related issue (that I'd love to hear responses from too, if moderator allows) in that a confirmed guest from Poland is specifically asking for the address & owner's contact info to enter on a Visa application to enter the USA. I've looked at the ESTA visa website & they do in fact require this information at least 72 hrs (3 days) in advance of travel & if it were me, I'd like to have this done at least a week prior in case of problems. I don't think this is a person attempting to gain early access for any nefarious reasons - but at the same time it could easily be emulated.

All my guests have access to my address after the penalty free cancellation period.

they can't get into the property even with an address 😀

this has never been an issue in nine years of hosting .

Thank you @Helen3 !

With 8 units on Airbnb we have had a few related issues in the past - people walking out with paintings, tv's etc., so it can haunt you a little - but we have added a security gate so you're right, they cannot actually gain access anymore even with the address until we send them the code.

For those not so lucky it may be a little daunting, although they'll have the name & phone number once the reservation was confirmed.

Another option (since the guests are coming for a conference) is to give the assigned hotel (for attendees) for visa purposes - which is where they will spend most of their time anyway. This can always be amended closer to date of travel if needed.
