Hi @Leesa40 😊

Thank you so much for asking this question here!

What’s the reason for this change?

@Jim-and-Caroline0, @Karen114, @Nash-Cottages-LLC0 and @Marie8425 Do you have any recommendations for our hosts?

@Leesa40  Are you referring to the sheets or the comforter/bedspread?  I use micro-fiber sheets and they don't need ironing however some hosts will say not to use microfiber becuase they can be hot.  We get great reviews on the sheets probably because they are pretty soft where all cotton can be a little crunchy.

As far as comforter or bedspread,  we no longer use them becuase people were sleeping on them and they were getting stained up.  We now use triple sheeting where we use fitted sheet on mattress, top sheet, blanket and top sheet on blanket.  It's a neat and clean look and what most hotels do. We tuck it in very tight so it doesn't have any wrinkles, its a bit of work to get into the bed lol but we can def see if the bed has been used. 😂. We did away with decorative shams as well and just put the pillows on the bed, 4 for a king with king pillows in a white pillow case.

Prior to this I have used big frilly comforters, Duvets (which housekeeping hates), and quilts.  Most quilts are not wrinkly in my experience.

Hope this helps.  I have been hosting since 2010 so have tried a lot of things.

@Leesa40 . We cater for casual holiday makers so they seem to be happy with the wrinkles as long as the sheets are clean and preferably natural fibres  (cotton, linen). I use a poly/cotton mix for kids sheets only (quicker to wash and dry when accidents happen). And like @Marie8425 I never iron them. If I fold them up carefully off the line I can usually smooth out most wrinkles.

I dont know how our set up would go during a UK winter but certainly your Summers are becoming as hot as ours so who needs to be ironing? 😉

@Frances3408

Handy when Guest have children, I just would mention in the bedroom closets on the high shelf, parents had access to what is basically I think called chucks by nurses to protect sheets.  We were Hawaii so we used a pretty tropical name haha.  Easy to use though it is a waterproof big square.  As a paremt you know who might have an accident possible triggers.  We did a lot today my child is tired sometimes an accident.  Chucks the parent just puts on top of the sheet kids don't notice but if an accident in the morning the parent just changes the wet square the sheets are dry

@Marie8425 . I prefer waterproof mattress protectors with jersey cover myself; no slipping around.

@Frances3408

I do rthat wiith all my mattreses and box springs zippered also protects in  case bed bugs one of our Hawaii rentals got once horrible experiemce lol.  These work just if a week stay the parent can easiy fix if the accident happens in the middle of a vacation.

@Marie8425 . In our most recent stay a toddler slept in the queen bed. Hard to know which side to place a pad as it seems to work best on singles. But yes, we have full mattress bed bug zipped encasements (which are waterproof) then jersey cotton waterproof mattress protector then a cotton protector for an adult(s) as I personally dont like the noise the waterproof jersey ones can make!  They were great guests and no damage

Please, please, please skip on microfiber sheets. They are sooo hot and I dread anytime we stay somewhere with them. There's a reason most hotels don't use them. I would much rather a cotton/poly blend than microfiber. Microfiber are much cheaper than cotton and don't wrinkle, hence why so many airbnb use them. But wrinkled sheets won't give me a bad sleep. When I'm on vacation, sleep is make or break. 200TC is too rough but 800-1000 usually pill pretty quick. I suggest 400TC (or even 300 if they feel nice).

Amazon has some decent ones. Sateen weaves feel super nice. California Design Den and Lane Linen are well regarded 100% cotton sheets.
