Do you offer food and drink to your guests?

Do you offer food and drink to your guests_.jpg

Hello hosts 👋

I’m really excited to hear about the lovely things you do to make your guests feel right at home. So, I’m super curious, do you offer any delicious food and drink to your guests?

Whether it's a charming welcome basket filled with local treats, a delightful breakfast spread, or a thoughtfully curated selection of beverages, your special touches can make such a difference in their experience. I once stayed in a yurt in Derbyshire that was on a farm, and we were provided with a a very tasty bottled cows milk to go with my morning coffee. Delicious!

Please share your creative ideas, heartwarming stories, or any unique offerings you provide below! I can’t wait to hear all about it!

That's fantastic @Cherie-Monique0 👏 Did you always have the plan to provide these items, or was it something that just happened?

Hello Rebecca,

I have spices and unexpired condiments in the fridge. Outside of those things and maybe some popcorn or snacks left in the welcome basket I don’t offer any other food or drink.

Hello @Babe-And-Michael0 👋

Thanks for popping by and letting us know. So it sounds like guests will have a few essentials and snacks to get them started. Do you find that’s usually enough for most visitors?

We provide bottled and filtered water, as well as everything you need for tea and coffee (sugar, creamer, herbal and regular tea, quality ground coffee). We sometimes add a bottle of local wine as a treat.

That's so lovely @Camille808 - It's nice to have all the essentials for a good brew  Do guests often enjoy the local wine you provide? There's a lot of mixed opinions on providing alcohol. Have you read some of the other responses here?

Hi all! No, but my setup is "dorm room" style with a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee/tea maker. I leave a bottle of water for each guest and have a small tin on top of the microwave where I stash some snacks: protein granola bars, cookies, and pretzels.

In my nearly 10 years hosting, I've noticed people are very happy to bring all their own stuff, (including groceries)...and they certainly have a lot of it.

Hello @April96 👋

A dorm room setup sounds quite practical. It’s nice that you provide water and snacks for your guests. Do you find that most guests prefer to stick to their own snacks and food, then?

I always leave fresh bread, milk, butter and tea/coffee/sugar so they can have tea & toast when they arrive and have something for breakfast. I also leave local Irish porridge, free range eggs, cereals. Its nice to leave treats - always biscuits, and sometimes nice cakes and sweets, and seasonal treats for national holidays.

Hello @Anne-Marie521 👋

That sounds lovely! Fresh bread and eggs make for a nice welcome. Do you find guests enjoy the seasonal treats?

Yes, tea & toast is always welcome when you arrive and its nice to give local or homemade produce also as it's all part of the experience of visiting a new place.

Definitely, and the bread in Ireland is fantastic! We recently came back from Ireland and found that the fresh bread was so wonderful - soda bread is my favourite!

Do you share with your guests where they can go to get top ups?

We provide tea, coffee, sugar,  but no creamer as our regulations in our county also limit our ability to provide food.

Hello @Alissa-and-Jeff0 👋

That sounds straightforward. It's good you've got the basics covered with tea and coffee. Do they usually bring their own creamer?

If you don't mind me asking, what's the difference in providing the coffee and the creamer, why is one not allowed?

Where we live it seems that everyone has their own preferred creamer - milk, oat, almond, soy, etc. - so we just provide the coffee and tea and tell them to bring their own creamer.

we are also a very affordable place - not fancy. We make sure we are clear with our guests and that seems to work well.

lastly, if we were to provide creamer, it would probably be those little plastic things of creamer and  our guests tend to be more ecologically oriented, and don’t want that .
