Does a Furniture improvement mean new photos are necessary

Hi !

We recently had to replace one older single person chair with a pair of new, matching conversation chairs that are def an upgrade - but different than what the pics show.

Should we:

1. Invest in new living room photos added to the listing to show the new chairs (which brings up the question of prof photos vs using my iphone photos);

2. If answer to #1 is yes — should we add language in the description to the affect of “we recently added 2 new chairs so the listing photos will look different.”

3. Not worry about it for now.

The new chairs are def an upgrade - adding 1 more single person chair and balancing the LR area with the pair.

Your thoughts appreciated !!

Your listing is beautiful! I would definitely replace the photo of the old chair with one that shows the new chairs. A professional photo shoot for one room is essentially going to cost you what it would for a whole house so I would just snap one on your phone as best you can and hope it doesn't stick out too much. The only reason I would opt for a professional shoot would be:

-You have other upgrades/small changes and the last photo shoot was a very long time ago.

-You are a perfectionist and want all the photos to look exactly the same style. (which is a perfectly valid reason!)

But personally, I don't think anyone will judge you if the one photo doesn't quite match the others!

Thank you Suzanne. Your reply really help. I have added new photos showing the new chairs.  There is a difference in the “style” of the photos as the professional ones are wide angle and have a darker tone …..

But for now it shows the home as it is.

Thank you again

@Julie5163 The dark/light tone difference is visible but in all honesty, I only saw it because you mentioned it here. The impression I got was as if the lighter photos were from a separate shoot done perhaps a different day. There are some other photos like the ones from the laundry room that have a similar light intensity so the new pictures blend in quite well.

And I agree with @Suzanne302 , you have a beautiful listing! 😃

Agreed, if it is a small change, no one will notice that

Whether or not new images are required for furniture improvement depends on how many changes were done. It is advised to take new images that accurately depict the revised product if the enhancement significantly changes the furniture's appearance or usefulness. Updated images can highlight the changes and give prospective purchasers a precise picture of the furniture's current state. Updates to the photographs might not be required, though, if the modifications are modest and have little impact on how the furniture is presented overall.

I would take an Iphone picture.  I have purchased two big stand lights meant for photography that I bought for this reason, and do it on a very bright sunny day.  You need to take an immediate photo, but for the good permanent photo, make sure you have the appropriate lighting.

Think about if your competition even warrants your ever needing professional photos.  I've never even had professional photos, and am not sure my location even would require it.  I'm a 5 year Superhost.  Very rural area.  Nobody has professional photos here.  I don't think the income difference would even matter for me.

The number of changes made to furniture determines whether or not new images are required. If the enhancement significantly changes the look or function of the furniture, new images should be taken. A new set of images will help prospective purchasers to see the furniture as it is today, as well as highlight the changes that have been made since the original images. Photographs may not need updating, however, if changes are modest and have little impact on the overall presentation of the furniture.

Adding new photos to your listing is a great idea, but you don't necessarily need professional photos. Adding a note in the description about the recent upgrade is also a good way to keep guests informed if you decide not to add new photos. It's up to you, however I would add them.
