Hello! I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for furniture for my space and for the bedrooms e.g bed frames, nightstands etc.
Furthermore, if anyone can provide any further information on budgeting, what features to look for and what suppliers i can use, it would be highly appreciated.
Thank you
Really depends on which country you are in and how you want to decorate your place @Asif89
You can put together a budget for the items you need on an excel spreadsheet or similar .
you can pick up second hand furniture on FB marketplace, auctions and charity shops .
you will know where to pick up white goods in your country .
H, you are helping Thanks, I am in New York USA.
What furniture should i have i rooms and quantity ? thanks
As I've already said it depends on your property and how you want to decorate .
why don't you do some market research on how hosts with similar listings are decorating and furnishing their properties in your location and make a list of what you want to include @Asif89
@Asif89 Things to keep in mind as you procure items:
-easy of cleaning
-try not to clutter
-think of where people can put make up on
-think of people with young kids
-cost vs durability
Hi @Asif89 the thing that’s helped the most when decorating on a budget is finding a photo idea of the space you’d like to create.
Then looking for those items at affordable stores including Home Goods, Wayfair and affordable stores for a baseline of pricing on those types of items. If you need some items in a hurry we’ve purchased rugs from Amazon to arrive before the next guest in a pinch.
I hope this helps.
@Asif89 Good mattresses are key. I use memory foam Wayfair for my matresses. If you can fit king beds in your bedroom/s then do that as guests will choose a space with King beds over smaller beds.
All bedrooms should have nightstands on each side of the bed with a light/lamp. If you can't fit a nigtstand a wall shelf next to bed and wall mounted light would work. Guests need space for water, glasses, phone alarm.
Bed frames- Forget the platform beds that you see on Wayfair. I made that mistake and now use Metal bedframes that I get on Amazon. You can purchase bed skirts to cover the metal legs.
Have toiletries such as shampoo, cond and body wash as well as hand soap, dishsoap and some cleaning supplies including broom and mop, a vacuum cleaner is better. TP, paper towels and garbage bags too.
I use Couches from wayfair either sectionals or two love seats that give the look. Throw pillows on couch as well as throw blankets.
Make sure you have enough seating for the living room and dining space. If you sleep 6 and only have 4 chairs at the table or living room furniture that seats 4 this will be a problem,
I try to keep 2 to a bedroom. So if it's a 2 bedroom, sleep 4. Nobody wants to sleep in bunk beds or pull out couches. Maximizing heads in beds is not always the best practice.
Don't forget your artwork, plants and area rugs.
@Karen114 So many practical pointers, thank you! 💡
The bed frame tip piked my curiosity, what is it that you dislike about platform vs metal frames?

Hi @Emilie The platform beds are typically made very poorly with fake wood frames and chintzy slats. They look beautiful, just not practical. Even if they have a higher weight capacity like 800 pounds they still break. Kids jump on them etc. I only know this becuase it happened to me. Luckily my husband and I were staying in the unit and noticed it. We were able to shore it up but going forward we are switching them out when they break.
Hi @Asif89,
How are you getting on with your furnishing project? Are there any rooms or items you've made progress on since posting here, or would like more advice for?
Other hosts have shared quite a few pieces of advice with you, which I hope were helpful, however it would be great to hear how you're getting on. 🙂
Thanks,
Emilie
