how do we find ou best home stays in Kannur area of Kerala
Does anyone else have lots of issues with guests and door code. My guests seem to always put in wrong codes and lock themselves out. I'm debating on weather to just give keys. Any advice or is this a normal thing?

Yes, this is a persisting issue. Not often, but not uncommon. I will have 2-3 guests who absolutely swear the keypad does not work, or they leave the lever manually locked and can't get back in etc, and nothing for months. Then I will have couple more back to back.
This is what I did to minimize:
1. Integrated with airbnb, so the code goes automatically.
2. I send them the longest step by step check in instructions. It starts like this.
Step 1: Locate the code you received on Airbnb app on the day you made the reservation.
Step 2: The key pad is on the upper left side of the door..
Step 3: Enter the code
Step 4: Press the button with the logo
Step 5: WAIT
I also put a lock box. There have been couple of elderly guests who locked themselves even after I unlocked the door for them remotely. I give them the code for the lock box if they keep having problems, so they can retrieve the physical key. but this has become really rare after the step by step instructions with photos.
We program the keypad for each guest and use the last 4 numbers of their contact/mobile number.
Once we started doing this we haven't had an issues.
It also reassures the guests that we don't give out one code for all the guests.
Great idea. Thank you
My house is fully accessible by codes, and i haven't had that issue consistently. I also think it helps when i greet them and show them the process.
One step that i have seen before in other stays is a video link showing guests how to use the door keypad. Maybe that could help?
Yes I send vide link also the only reason I don't greet them is mostly guests come late. Thank You for the response.

This makes me feel better its not just me. I luv the step 5 WAIT!!!!! Same, they tell me its broken however it isn't. Also they leave reviews "had difficulty w locks however was resolved in 30 min." I will defiantly do this as well. Thank you
😁I used to teach college freshmen classes. I got into the habit of making step by step list for every single thing, including logging into Blackboard assignments etc.
The habit is serving me well in hosting. I pretty much treat everyone as if they were toddlers!
Giving the code with 4 last digits of their phone numbers is a common solution.
Step by step photos (or video) is an absolute must
I meet my guests personally and give them an electronic key instead of a code. It is easier for me because they have to get 2 other keys for the building entrances anyway + I don't have to recode the lock after every guest.
I wonder how often guests have problems with lockboxes? Do they leave them unlocked or open? I am thinking about a lockbox but I doubt the average human intelligence after a few groups checked out and left the apartment door fully open, ...
I use à lock box and key. Never had a problem.
