Heating your space

Heating your space

Just an idea - I am in the Karoo area (very cold in Winter) So I did extensive research on this and now I am pasting the idea.  Hope this helps anyone.

  1. The Heater: Add the Alva Electric Convection Heater - White**
  2. The Sensor: Add a Smart Wifi Temperature and Humidity Sensor (Tuya compatible)**. Ensure you choose a Wi-Fi version so you do not need to buy an extra smart gateway hub.
  3. The Smart Plug: Add a 16A rated smart plug, such as the Geewiz WiFi Smart Plug 16A TUYA** or the Chenshia 16A SA Tuya WiFi Smart Plug**. Do not use a standard 10A plug, as the heater's 2000W load will overheat it.

How this Minimizes Your Electricity Bill (Airbnb Strategy)
Leaving a 2000W heater unmonitored in an Airbnb can result in massive electricity bills. This specific combination saves money in three ways:
  • Stops Guest Overheating: Airbnb guests routinely blast heaters up to 26°C or 28°C and then open windows when the room gets too hot. By hiding the sensor on a wall or high shelf, your automated app rule overrides their behavior. It forcefully cuts power to the heater the exact moment the room hits a comfortable threshold (e.g., 21°C).
  • The "Freeze Protection" Idle Mode: In -12°C weather, you cannot turn the heater completely off during the day, or the room's core temperature will drop below freezing. If it drops that low, it takes hours of continuous, expensive high-wattage power to make the room livable again. Your smart automation can keep the room at a steady, energy-saving 14°C to 16°C during the day, using minimal bursts of power just to keep the deep freeze out.
  • Precise "Wake Up" Windows: Instead of running the heater on high all night long, you can program the app to drop the temperature to a cool 17°C while they sleep under blankets, and trigger a 30-minute warmth boost right before their alarm goes off.

By using this (google - you can get the exact steps and costs) you can monitor your guest's room and they will be perfectly comfortable during freezing days while you control your electricity bill.

Nice suggestion to limit use of elektricity.

"Airbnb guests routinely blast heaters up to 26°C or 28°C and then open windows when the room gets too hot"

The average "mentally well designed" guest will not show such behaviour.

What if the guest unplugs the heather from the smart plug and plug it in elsewhere ?

" and trigger a 30-minute warmth boost right before their alarm goes off"

How do you know at what time their (wake-up) alarm goes off ?
