How long does it really take to clean your space?

How long does it really take to clean your space_.png

Hello everyone😊,
I hope you’re having a great week!

Cleaning between guests isn’t always as quick as we hope.

Sometimes it’s a smooth one-hour reset, sheets changed, bathroom scrubbed, a quick vacuum. Other times, it takes much longer, especially if guests left things messy or if you’re extra thorough with the details. Some hosts do it all themselves, while others rely on cleaners.

How long does it really take you to clean your space?

I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts!

Warm regards,
Elisa 🌻

Hi @Janell237 😊

Thank you for joining the conversation.

3.5 hours is a good turnaround time, well done!
Do you also clean the windows every time a guest leaves?

@Janell237

Wow that is really fast!

For our one room + ensuite bath it takes 2 professionals 3.5 hours to properly clean after a stay of 1 - 3 nights. Plus doing laundry, trash and restocking, which I do. Our guest room is 835 sq ft only.

It usually takes me a minimum of 3 hours - I am meticulous, and have a certain way I want things in the house.  Plus, I am always doing laundry and running the dishwasher.  When I've hired outside cleaners (which I have to do occasionally, they are in and out in no time), however, my last one literally didn't fully dry the towels and put them back folded up in the linen closet.  With that being said, I like to be thorough - it's our business, and I cannot afford for it to go south, so if I have to spend additional time cleaning myself, and/or doing quality checks for cleaners I've hired, then I will.

Hi @Jeanna27 😊

Thank you for sharing this here!

That’s really interesting.

Why do you run the dishwasher yourself? Don’t your guests usually do it before they leave?

You are very welcome @Elisa .  And, believe it or not, about 50% of my guests will run it.  The other 50% just leave with a dishwasher full of dirty dishes.  It's frustrating, but I've just assumed most guests operate that way...idk

Hi.

It will takes upto 2-3 hours.

Wszystko zależy jaki bałagan zostawią goście.

Do you have someone helping you, or do you do everything yourself?

@Elisa   Whole house, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, full kitchen, living room, outdoor deck and hot tub. Three hours if the guests respected the property. My housekeeper is a whiz at turnovers that includes an empty, scrub and refill of the hot tub.  If she is not available to clean and I am doing it myself, it takes me around 4 and sometimes 5 hours to accomplish what she does.

I want to point out that the cleaning required by an STR is remarkably different than the cleaning that your own home would get from a cleaning lady.  A "regular" clean of a home does not include piece by piece inspection and rewashing of dishes, silverware, pots and pans.  It does not include checking the kitchen linens, bedroom linens or bathroom towels for damaged, stained or missing items.  It does not include checking appliances for misuse, window blinds for broken cords, or deck furniture for sagging seats or stains.  It does not include checking the caulk around the tub/shower, toilet base or opening the drain covers to remove hair. It does not include pulling out the refrigerator or oven to clean under and behind those items.  All of what I have mentioned would be considered a "deep clean" if I asked for it to be done in my own home but is a REGULAR cleaning when it comes to my rental property.

Three hours is great timing for such a big listing.

How do you clean the hot tub?

@Elisa  4 man hot tub - housekeeping puts in the 1/4 horsepower submersible utility pump to drain the tub upon arrival at the cabin; 20 mins later it is empty.  Scrub out, rinse out, drain again and then start 45 minute refill process.  All of this is accomplished in the 3 hour window that housekeeping is onsite.

Hi @Elisa I have a small 1-bed house with a bathroom and a separate ensuite loo & basin. My cleaning lady does the main work in 2 hrs. If it's been a particularly short stay, it'll take less, but then she'll clean skirting/windows up to the 2 hrs - the things that don't have to be done every week or less.

But, after she's cleaned, I go and do a post-clean check and invariably do some micro-cleaning, the little things that she's missed. That takes at least an hour, often a bit more.

I've had several cleaners over the 11 years I've been hosting, but even the best ones don't have the attention to detail that I do - and that's fine, I don't expect it.

Hi @Tara0 😊

It’s so nice to read your message here!

That’s wonderful that you have someone who can help you.

How did you find them, was it difficult?
