Hello everyone😊,
I hope you’re having a great week!
Cleaning between guests isn’t always as quick as we hope.
Sometimes it’s a smooth one-hour reset, sheets changed, bathroom scrubbed, a quick vacuum. Other times, it takes much longer, especially if guests left things messy or if you’re extra thorough with the details. Some hosts do it all themselves, while others rely on cleaners.
How long does it really take you to clean your space?
I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts!
Warm regards,
Elisa 🌻

Hi @Tara0 😊,
It’s so nice to read your message here!
That’s wonderful that you have someone who can help you.
How did you find them, was it difficult?

@Elisa I do the cleaning for my 2 bed2 bath house that includes outdoor decks. Takes me 2 1/2 hours. I do laundry offsite
Hi @Basha0 😊,
Thank you for sharing this here!
That’s perfect timing. Why do you prefer doing the laundry off-site?

Hi @Elisa ,
A really long time! We have over 6,000 sq ft, 5 outdoor spaces, 9 individual beds, garage and driveway/exterior that needs to be addressed. It is a herculean effort. Re-stocking alone takes awhile.
Our cleaning crew does an amazing job of keeping up with things. It is amazing that they can accomplish a same day turnover at all and in the summer season we have multiple back to back same day turnovers, which is probably very typical for many hosts on here.
Our core cleaning crew is just one person and she has been doing STR cleans for at least a decade, so she gets it. She gets our STR turned around same day (so 6 hours), does not include laundry as she takes it off site to deal with separately. When the clean can't be accomplished by just her, she runs out and grabs extra hands if available, in this case it's her own family/connections that come in and help make beds, run the vacuum or move stuff back.
Our last AIRBNB group she needed to go get two additional people as the group, while not bad, left just too much work in their wake. Some times we get groups that look like they weren't there at all and sometimes it's just crazy.
To help make all this possible I come and do a version of a clean after every third group, including:
- iron pillow cases, top sheets, our cleaner launders them but I do all the ironing and 'batch' it when possible, otherwise a guest gets a wrinkled sheet but we have a system to try and avoid that.
- re-fill all the refillable containers. We have curated enough containers of the bathroom products so that our cleaner can just put out freshly full bottles. For the kitchen I leave multiple FULL salt/pepper/sugar and oils so she just puts out a fresh "full" set when needed.
- check all the amenities: fix, clean or replace: ping pong paddles & balls, pool cues, darts (always need fixing), grill, firepit. I had no idea that ping pong balls deflate!
- clean or launder the things that don't get cleaned every time: shower curtains, exterior furniture cushions, window screens, slats on blinds (we have a million slats that take forever to clean), and more.
This takes me 2 full days of flat out effort. I don't stop, as I sleep on site and just keep going for hours. Depending on the weather and how I feel it could be 20 hours or more of just doing stuff.
Happy cleaning!
Hi @Greystone0 😊,
Thank you for sharing this here.
Six hours is a lot, but I understand, the property you have is really big.
Have you ever thought about getting a bigger crew to help you get things done faster?

Hi @Elisa ,
Our main cleaner brings in extra hands if needed. Our goal is to make sure the place is turned around properly not to try and get out of there as fast as possible. It's a lot of moving parts.
Our location is a small town and workers are at a premium. There is not a plethora of excellent cleaning teams to choose from. Especially after the pandemic our town was wiped out of workers in key areas. As you know, if you can't get the cleaning right you shouldn't be in the STR business. It's a real asset to have a diligent cleaning person. It will be a real issue for all her homeowners, including us, when she decides to hang up her hat!
I am a second pair of hands in this case and work hard to make sure her job is as efficient as possible.
Hi @Greystone0 😊,
Thank you for your kind reply.
That’s great that you can get all this support and that you’re also available to help. 😍
Do you work as well? How do you manage everything?
