Hi everyone,
I will be hosting a guy for the first time and I, woman, will also be at home in the meantime.
Any safe tips to protect myself?
Hi @Ines-Bento0
Message the guest before arrival. Ask about the purpose of their trip, expected arrival time, and confirm they’ve read your house rules. Their communication style can often give you a sense of whether they’re a good fit.
Trust your instincts. If something feels off before check-in, contact Airbnb Support. If a guest behaves in a way that makes you feel unsafe during the stay, prioritize your safety and contact local authorities if necessary, then notify Airbnb.
Let a trusted friend or family member know when guests are checking in, especially if you’re hosting alone.
If you’re sharing your home with a guest, it’s reasonable to ask for a valid government-issued ID, especially if it’s clearly stated in your listing and house rules before they book. Transparency is important so guests know what to expect.
Thank you so much!
Hello @Ines-Bento0
Just so that you know for the future, if you are more comfortable having accepting women in your home, this is allowed by Airbnb as you are a home share host. A rare exception they make to their non discrimination policy.
For more information on this, read the Airbnb help link:

Like @Patricia2526 says, set the boundaries early on - in your house rules of course and reinforce these in your communication with your guests
Thank you so much!
As I am new to this, I am slowly learning. I also need to think it through more before accepting.
Yes, after this hosting, I will restrict only to woman, also because I have trauma with risky situations so even if I am safe, it is hard for me to feel it.
Thank you for making it clearly that they have that expection.
All this is already helping a lot and the guy is being quite responsive and collaborative. I already feel safer with all the verifications I asked for and him being so transparent and respectful communicating.
That's quite understandable @Ines-Bento0 and this is why Airbnb allow hosts to specify that they only host guests of the same gender.
Always a good sign when you have a responsive guest too so I'm glad that you're feeling more comfortable hosting this person.
Wishing the best
Joëlle
Thank you so much for the support once more!
