Hey everyone,
I’m hoping to get some recommendations on smart locks that actually work well for you. I’ve been using @Schlage, and it’s been a nightmare. I’m on my fourth device now—some died because of humidity, and the one I have keeps dropping off Wi‑Fi even though it’s supposed to have built‑in Wi‑Fi. It’s causing check‑in issues for guests, and it’s starting to hurt my ranking. All my reviews are five stars, but the check‑in process keeps getting messy because of this lock.
If you’ve found a brand that’s been solid for your Airbnb, or if you’ve dealt with the same problems, I’d really appreciate hearing what’s worked for you.
Hi @Hendel2
It looks like you're in the US. Hosts in the US and Canada can integrate smart locks with the Airbnb system - perhaps you're doing this?
If so, you're limited to the brands in the Compatible Locks tab in this article.

The rest of us can't integrate, so the brand doesn't matter as much in the rest of the world. But our opinions on other brands won't help if you want to use the integration feature.
@Hendel2 We do have a smart log that's coupled with a smart tablet that's installed on the wall. And we use the app that allows the last four digits of their phone number to check them in through the front door with the last four digits of their phone number as a code. We've had very minor setbacks.... Keep fresh batteries lol
@Hendel2 . I only use Schlage. Started with Encode almost 5 years ago and recently adding Arrive. They are physically very sturdy locks but yes depending on which one you are using if you dont have reliable wifi it may drop off so how far is the lock from the modem?.
Re humidity we have had very wet and high humidity here for the past 5 years down the OZ east Coast (La Nina) and they are all still working. Like all electronic locks they dont work as well if exposed to the weather so I make sure all entrances have a rain cover. You might consider an extra small plastic cover just over the top of keypad. I have one that is inside an enclosed storm porch works the best.
Hope this helps.
thank you very much for taking the time to respond and provide great recommendations.
@Hend4 I've been using Eufy for two years now and the device hasn't given us any problem so far and I'm in South Florida, were Humidity was born 😂
I use the Schlage Encode and absolutely love it. Those are for the main entry doors to the property. There are areas that I protect with another lock that I don’t want any guests going into and hate keys since I travel for work.
schlage encode is so easy to use and install and perfectly works well with the Airbnb integration.
Hi Hendel2, while I have given up on smartlocks, I will provide a recommendation that has worked wonders.
I have been using Shlage too. They're sturdy and easy to use. I recommend!
Hello @Hendel2 from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦
Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your smartlocks. Hopefully the insights from other Hosts can help you out.
Currently I use KWIKSET locks because they work with our VIVINT Security System, unfortunately they are not compatible with Airbnb.
I have had the occasional technical issue over the years due to the age of my security system and Wifi.
But to my knowledge I've never had any weather or humidity related issues. And we have extreme weather here but temperatures rarely drop below -32°C (-26°F) or exceed 31°C (88°F).
We plan on upgrading our security system next month so that might change how our locks function or possibly even the brand.

Hello @Hendel2, many great suggestions here from hosts. We would love to know if you are planning to try any of the smart locks they are suggesting.
Keep us posted.
hi Paula, yes. Thank you and all for taking the time to record and provide comments and suggestions.
Hi, I'm in Australia. I use McGrathLocks. I've been using it for three years.
It works well. I can use the WiFi to change codes. Monitor coming and going of guests.
