Over time, Iโve learned to tell a real problem from a problem that isnโt really a problem at all.
My home isnโt a showroom. People actually live in it for a few days, weeks, or months. They use the glasses, the cutlery, the chairs, the tables and, occasionally, even their common sense.
A plate getting accidentally chipped is part of the job. A scratch on a table may simply be the cumulative result of hundreds of perfectly normal uses.
Of course, thereโs AirCover. But invoking it for every minor bit of damage can be a very efficient way of turning a three-euro problem into a three-month problem.
Photos. Documentation. Messages. Explanations. Waiting. Automated replies. More explanations.
And eventually, you discover that buying another plate would have been the simplest part of the whole affair.
Of course, genuine damage is a completely different matter.
If something has clearly been damaged through negligence or irresponsible behaviour, is no longer usable, or needs to be repaired, then it should be documented and dealt with.
But experience also teaches you when to do nothing, because not everything that gets broken is a claim waiting to happen.
Sometimes, itโs simply the cost of having a home that is being used by human beings in constant rotation.
