I have a property in unincorporated San Bernardino county, but AirBnB support insists the property is in the city of Big Bear Lake. I deal with this every time I report my TOT to SB county. My guests are getting overcharged and the county of SB is not receiving the excess money, so where is the money going? I have multiple support requests in to resolve this, and even had the county of SB write a letter to AirBnB confirming the property should be at 7% not the 10% they are charging my guests. Anyone else experience this?
If AirBnB is listening…fix this please! Literally 6 months I have been contacting you about this, causing me to resort to this post.
Good luck with that! Unless you have money to hire a legal team, most issues like this will go unresolved. When I was hosting they would take taxes (approx 30%) and said that they were submitting it to the state of washington. However they refused to give me any kind of tax forms, tax information, when it came time for me to claim taxes, because they said I didn't make a certain amount that year. I told them I don't care if they think I made enough that year, they took that money, I want to report it! Long story short they wouldn't give me any of the info on the thousands of dollars taken and like always, nothing was ever done to change it...
Have you tried re-entering your address as a Big Bear City address and zip code instead of Big Bear Lake?
Once a Host has their first guest stay, a Host cannot change the address on the listing; only Airbnb can do that. I would guess it would be very difficult to do that. You must put the legal address of the property on the listing. If a mistake was made when the listing was created, it is very difficult to change it.
@Craig242 It looks like you are showing general location instead of specific location under Location on the listing? I would change that to specific location on the listing (turn on the address privacy slider). Then I would go to Googlemaps and get the GPS coordinates for the address of the property and take a screen shot. Then take the screen shot of the Googlemaps coordinates and the letter from the city (hopefully shows the boundaries or refers to them) and you can show visually you are not in Big Bear, but in San Bernadino County. Airbnb has improperly assigned the wrong TAID (Tax Area Indentification Number) to the listing.
