Chargeback

Chargeback

Just wanted to share an experienced with a guest we received from a popular booking platform

During Carnival in Dominica, we host guests and are sold out every year. One particular guest booked five nights with her partner. On the fourth night, she messaged me saying that she usually stay in 5‑star hotels and that our accommodations weren’t her preference. This was right in the middle of Carnival, when every room or apartment in the city was fully booked.

She decided to check out on the fourth day and demanded a refund. I refused, since our refund policy was clearly stated on both the invoice and receipt. Weeks later, I was shocked to receive a chargeback request from her credit card company through Stripe. I submitted all the evidence, including proof of our policy, but despite that, the chargeback was approved.

To this day, I’m still amazed at how people managed to orchestrate what feels like outright fraud.

The booking was not through Airbnb @Hubert--J0 , as it isn't possible for an Airbnb host to charge a guest's credit card.

If it was Booking.com, you can select the option where the platform handles payments on your behalf (instead of charging the credit card yourself).

Hi @Shelley159

Yes, totally agree and this is why I said, a popular booking platform. This would never happen on AirBnB, my preferred partner.
