Extra guest fee

Hello,

 

Could you please help me understand an extra guest rule.

 

I had a guest come who I charged as normal, but had no idea she invited her boyfriend to stay with her. I normally charge extra for an extra guest but have it marked on listing that the studio fits 2 people comfortably. So should I request payment for 2nd guest or was it my misunderstanding of the extra guest fee?

 

Also, in the guide I do not allow unauthorised visitors, but for like an hour, she got 4 of her friends come at 3AM, whixh was captured by cctv outside. The flat was left very beautifully, but rule is a rule. Should I bother notifying the guest of this?

@Sofija15 any notification to the guest may get you a bad review. Its just not worth it especially as the guest was exemplary in all other ways

Hi @Sofija15  - this extra occupancy comes up a lot around here! you are not alone. Agree with the advice given and I'll just add this:

 

- there is no hard and fast 'rule'  about this idea - it's what you wish to make as your own rule that is important.

 

- some hosts don't bother with occupancy issues and as long as guest arrives within the 'range' of what is stated within the listing, nothing is said.

 

- some hosts, like us, ask to keep to the occupants within the booked amount. In our case we also have a maximum permitted occupancy that we need to be mindful of as well.

 

- In your case, if you don't already, you can add some content in your 'other things to know' and 'house rules' that the rate is for "1" occupant and a "2nd" has a fee. Or some such explanation that helps you manage this.

 

- and then follow that up in your messaging to each guest to 'confirm' occupancy - like "reservation is for 1 adult" and so if this is in error to let you know asap or whatever suits you. In this case this may have caught both of the issues you mentioned.

 

- and you can do all of that and still have issues, it happens a lot.
