Guest damaged table, and left a note.

I have just had a guest from AU put something hot on our beautiful wooden walnut dining table

it is ruined and we are gutted, the guest left a note saying 

"My apologies about the stain left on the table, my son lives in Orewa and has offered to repair it with a light sanding if you want. 

The table would need a french polisher to redo it and this would cost $1,200.00
