Guest who charged his EV at the property

Hi I recently had a guest with an EV stay for a few days. He never mentioned he had an EV and would be using an extension cord from the house power point to charge his EV overnight. I looked at my electricity bill and noticed an increase in power usage during the period of his stay. The difference from the norm was significant, ranging from approximately an extra $10 to $16 per day. Any thoughts on how to in the future get reimbursed for the extra electricity cost? I had thought of adding an extra charge to the reservation of say $15 per day if the host intends to recharge their vehicle.

Hi @Peter4824

Right now, guests are just plugging in because nothing says they can’t.

Add something like:

“Use of outdoor power outlets for EV charging is not included in the reservation. Please inform host in advance. Unauthorized use may incur additional charges.”

This gives you a basis to enforce fees after the fact if needed.

“Charging is not included in the nightly rate. A fee of $10–$15 per night per vehicle (or per charging session) will be applied to cover electricity and wear on equipment”.
