Hi there, we are relatively new to hosting. We are based in The New Forest National Park in the UK. Hosted our lovely pretty rustic cabin. Fitted out expensively and tastefully and designed as a retreat for a couple and similar. Not appropriate really for families. We have had to date 37 five star reviews and have about 6 bookings in hand for springtime. Quiet right now so we are considering to allow guests to bring one small well behaved dog. We have declined guests with pets up till now because didn’t want extra mess or risk in the cabin. However we have a guest that has booked and wants to bring a dog for 4 days and only pay £10 extra. Is this normal? What is the going rate . Should I say £20 for 2 nights then £10 per night. Also I have dogs, horses and cats . Being the forest we also have donkeys, ponies ,sheep and wild pigs outside our cottage gate’s most days throughout the summer months. We ask clients to maintain and control the dog on a lead in and a round our place. What is the general opinions out there? We do not accept 2 to 12 year old children; but did have a guest with a new born baby it went well, is this hosts in general encourage ?
@Patrick3054 I would charge a one off fee per pet to deal with the extra cleaning. You will get more bookings allowing pets so this should be reward enough.
@Patrick3054 I'm a dog lover, but I don't allow pets at my property.
Every dog owner claims that their pet is well behaved.
No guest will ever tell you that their dog is rambunctious, chews things up, or poops in the house, etc. Stew on that for a minute, and then make your decision.
The cleaning burden alone is enough to make anyone say no. One dog hair and the next guest is unhappy, and you get a bad cleanliness rating.
