Good Question! What works for me is to add up all my costs and expenses for the space, and add a little for myself after paying the bills. If your place is in any way comparable to others in the area, you could use that as a reference point. Everyone's situation is unique, so using my own formula is best for me. 

Best of luck and definitely make a list andbreak out the calculator!
