No, don't try to change my mind, you can't. It really is terrible. What were they thinking?
And Reservations!
@Stephanie Specific things I don't like about the dashboard really isn't a relevant question. Because the answer is "everything".
What I don't like about the dashboard is what I would venture to say all hosts don't like about the dashboard- it is designed and constantly being changed by people who are not hosts, do not consult hosts about what they want, and therefore design useless, frustrating, and user-unfriendly interfaces.
Suggestions- stop letting these techies design the features hosts need to run their business smoothly. Put together a team of experienced hosts, of both entire homes and home shares, to make it clear to the programmers what features hosts need to access on a daily basis, what we don't need to see regularly that could be moved elsewhere. Get the hosts to design the layout.
The dashboard is being designed by IT people who think like IT people. Most hosts are ordinary folks who want a simple menu. We need a short list on the dashboard that has reservations, reviews, inquiries, requests, the calendar, transactions, edit listing, listings, and a very few other things I'm sure other hosts could add to that. We need those things easy to access with one click, not 7.
We also need things to be intuitive, and not given esoteric names that are always being changed. What does "Opportunities" mean, for instance? Who would know what that meant if you didn't click on it to find out? Is there something wrong with everyday English that everyone understands the meaning of?
Who would know to click on the name of their listing to get to the monthly calendar unless they stumbled upon that by accident or were told by other hosts on the forum? Why isn't there simply a line that says "monthly calendar" we can click on?
Why are they putting things on horizontal scrolls? That is not how anyone in the real world is accustomed to scrolling.
I most certainly do not need a list of things Airbnb suggests I offer on my dashboard. There are currently 18 things on that list that I will never, ever do because they are not appropriate to my listing or amenable to me. So why is it cluttering up my hosting pages forever? Why am I not allowed to get rid of it? It's really irritating.
I am never going to add "heat" to my amenities list. I live in the tropics.
Why on earth am I being urged to add "heat"?
Tell the people who are designing this stuff to go back and look at the dashboard layout from back in 2015/2016. It was simple, it was accessible, you could find and get to the tools hosts use in one click. These people keep trying to arrogantly reinvent the wheel and now it's not round, it's square and doesn't roll.
This isn't rocket science. Hosts are really sick of being disrespected and having their work made harder.
👏👏👏👏 So well said @Sarah977
"What does "Opportunities" mean, for instance? Who would know what that meant if you didn't click on it to find out?"
They do this exactly so that hostswill click in, and hopefully go "Ooh, I need to check all the boxes!!" It's like what they do at grocery stores, rearranging the entire store every 6 months, so that shoppers are forced to go and look in every nook and cranny for the things on their lists. The idea is, we discover new things to purchase, instead of always just going to the same spots over and over. 🙄
What I don't like about the dashboard is what I would venture to say all hosts don't like about the dashboard- it is designed and constantly being changed by people who are not hosts, do not consult hosts about what they want, and therefore design useless, frustrating, and user-unfriendly interfaces.
Ding ding ding, ring that bell!
I agree! Used several hours trying to find out how to turn off the stupid “ instant booking”, never get it yet!
@Sarah977 I wish I had saved some screen shots of the lay-out of the dashboard and other main screens in 2016-2017, but I had no idea that Airbnb would be constantly tinkering with things and always making the user experience less intuitive, more cluttered and less useful.
Why fix what is not broken! You are so right!
More what's wrong with it:
Reservations are no longer on the dashboard. So now going to the Calendar and scrolling through it is required OR clicking menu then REservations is required.
Are most Airbnbs hotels...I'm not and so "today" and "tomorrow" will usually NEVER be relevant to me.
The reason I go to my dashboard is to send guests information for their trip. All of those are more than 1-2 days away.
There is no reason to have "requests" more prominant than upcoming reservations.
All of my requests on the dashboard are weeks, months or years old yet there is no way to dismiss them.
This is just the beginning of what's wrong with the dashboard.
Was it tested on hosts???
I can't even get to the dashboard. I have no idea if I have bookings or not. Hopefully not, because I can't find them. I can't find the calendar either. Does anyone know how I can do that? I have been asking for help and they are ignoring me. I asked for a phone call so I could check my bookings and they said 30 minutes. That was at 2 pm, it is now 5 pm and no call. Did they expect me to sit at the phone and wait? And I am not a hotel! I wish they would make it a bit more generic, like that old fashioned word Lodging!
Then I tried to look for me and it said I wasn't there. Why do they have to fix something that isn't broken.
In the old days we got a notification to write a review or if one had been written.
This is yet another thing that would be helpful on the Dashboard that isn’t there.
A Dashboard should be a Dashboard, not an exercise in minimalism and marketing. Thank you.
Dashboard "today" tab gives WRONG info!! It tells me I am not hosting right now, and yet I know I have someone staying until tomorrow! Poor design is one thing but wrong information is in a completely different category!
@Sarah977 My version of the app on my phone (Pixel 4a) does not show this menu across the bottom. It just has: Today, Your Reservations, Next Steps, and Hosting Tips. No menu to be found. I want to see the menu each time I log in, it was so helpful. Does anyone have a work-around they could suggest?
I can't even find Today?? I can get no where, where I would like to be? Any help for me?
Susie, Same thing for me! I not only do not have guests, but I don't exist either! I am not there. I am in Newport and get a lot of business from Air. I cannot access my calendar or my dashboard, there is no where to click to find out info I need. So then what? Do people start showing up at my house and I don't know they are coming? Instant book is a joke now!
Gosh, the Dashboard is so useless, I don't even look at it. I did like when the Review section was there though.
